What are my chances for Vanderbilt?

I am a junior in highschool at one of the top 20 all-girls schools in the US, and I am planning on applying ED to Vanderbilt. What do you think my chances of getting in are (at this point)? Here are my scores, classes, extra-curriculars, etc.:

GPA: 4.3 (out of possible 4.6)

ACT: 31 (I took the ACT once, and I am retaking it in a month. I am hoping to raise it to at least a 32)

Classes: I would have taken 8 honors classes and 5 APS by the time I graduate. (Honors geometry, honors Algebra 2, honors PreCalc, honors Spanish 3, honors Spanish 4, honors chemistry, honors physics, honors international relations & AP biology, AP Calc, AP Literature and AP environmental science) I also took the required English and History courses but not always at the honors level.

Extra-curriculars: Volunteer as a tutor for lower-income children twice a week, Russian language lessons to learn how to read and write in Russian, Global Scholars program, started my own eBay business, business and finance program, volunteer for a local breast cancer organization, leadership academy, business summer internship, cashier at target, gold key club (ambassador for my school), started my own club at school called “around the world”, babysit, BBYO (Jewish Youth Organization), Volleyball, Pre-collage summer program, service trip to Costa Rica.

It would be great if you had any tips!!

Thanks!

I would definitely try to raise that ACT as high as you can. A 31 can get you in but it makes it hard. Also make sure you take the ACT with writing because I’m pretty sure that they require the writing portion. I might suggest to take some SAT subject tests in your area of interest to be more competitive objectively too.

you have a good chance, but not great. Raise the ACT, and are you majoring in business? if not, i would recommend doing EC’s related to your major. Also, try to start your CA essay. This year, Vandy only required one short essay asking about a EC you like. It ll be better if you plan it now, and if it’s related to your major.

it is highly selective, but I applied here knowing nothing about it. 13% is really low, but if you’re applying ED, and if you have hooks, I would say you have a better chance than most.

As a junior in high school, it’s a bit late for OP to start ECs related to their major.

What did you get on each section of your ACT?

Being that it is ED you have a fair chance. It seems like you are interested in business, but Vandy does not have a business major.

I think your ACT is a bit low for vandy if you can bump it up even to just a 33 you’d be in much better shape otherwise profile looks pretty good.

@Fijiblu I just got in RD from the Mosaic invite with a 33, and my profile is not as impressive as yours.

^ Yes; and I would go even further and state that you probably need to get your ACT score up to at least a 34 to be competitive.

Also, with respect to ECs, it’s quality over quantity. Keep that in mind over the course of the next year.

@Fijiblu A 34 would be great, but if you dont get it then don’t worry. You are competitive with a 33 and above and still have a chance with a 32. I don’t know your class rank, which is important.
A 31 first try is good. I had a 29 my first try and then got a 33.

grammar and spelling are important on applications.

What will make you stand out?

Thanks! My school is really small (only 90 girls), so we don’t do class rank, but I would say I am easily in the top 10%.

I am interested in business. However, even though Vandy doesn’t have a business school or major, there are still ways to do business, and I think that is a better route for me. For example, I was thinking of majoring in economics or something of the sorts.

I got a 31 on English, 32 on math, 30 on reading, and 29 on science

Also, I’m not sure if this helps or means anything, but I am first generation American. My parents are both immigrants from Eastern Europe, and only my mom finished college (no-grad. school). Also, I am fluent in speaking and understanding Russian.

Ok. I am actually facing that problem because I love Vandy, but want to major in business. So, I am planning on majoring in economics if I enroll.
