What are my chances for VT College of Engineering?

Hello! Thank you for taking your time to read this!

I attend Franklin County High School, located in southwest Virginia, as a Senior.
Ethnicity: White/Asian
First Generation College(?): Yes
Bilingual(?): Yes
Volunteer Work(?): About 50 hours
Strongest Subject(?): Mathematics, Sciences
Planned Major(?) Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering w/ Minor Business
Why do you want to attend VT(?)

  • I strongly believe that Virginia Tech will be the only school to guide me toward my goal. That may sound ridiculous considering that there are other great schools out there, but I’m determined that Virginia Tech is that special one. Comparatively, it’s much like picking that one puppy out of a store or pound. Although there are many, you will always come down to just picking one that sparks the most interest.

Before continuing, I don’t mean to show off anything. I am only presenting myself in terms of academics in order to have some type of calculation for my chances. I’m usually very modest. Thank you!

Your essay doesn’t speak for anything… you stated that virginia tech is the only school that can help you with your goals, but you never stated what your goals were and HOW virginia tech can help you. I think its a reach… your SAT is really low and your EC’s are good but not spectacular. Your GPA is also good but with a low SAT, Virginia Tech might speculate on grade inflation.

I knew it was true. I’m not going to get in the engineering program and that’s for sure.

I’ve taken the SAT Math 2 and Biology subject tests. Not sure how well I did on those. I’m also planning to be involve with the Corps of Cadets. There was one Virginia Tech special alumni that I’ve met while at NASA. His name was Dr. Roger Crouch, who became an astronaut at the age of 56 - impressive. He never gave up his dream and worked immensely to reach that dream of exploring areas that are uncommon (aka space). Similarly, I’m the type of person that is well-determined to do whatever it takes. Sadly, I can’t seem to do well on my SATs despite hours of studying, but I don’t consider myself a waste of space or an idiot for that reason (maybe sometimes). I consider myself to be an intelligent individual who has a strong determination and work ethic with poor standardized test taking strategies. The true reason why I want to attend Virginia Tech was because I know so many people who have graduated and earned exceptional connections, degrees, friendships, and experiences. I want to be exactly like that with the Hokie signature labeled on my own name. With that being said, my main goal in life is to be able to be a part of the United States’ legacy of innovation and I only find Virginia Tech to be that special school to take me there. I absolutely adore our on-going technological trend in the aerospace, military, and common industries with the addition of our glorious national space agency. I’m sorry that I can’t make that perfect SAT score, and I’m sorry that having the chance of working inside a NASA facility is not spectacular enough for Virginia Tech. If Virginia Tech denies me, then I only have three other options to consider. Yet, don’t give up on me. I’m willing to work as long as opportunity comes my way.
