What are my chances for WashU, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Emory, Northwesternand Cornell?
I know these schools are all reaches for me, but I was just wondering if I have a shot at any of them.
I'm currently a junior
GPA unweighted: 3.7

SAT: 760 CR, 670 M, 790 W. Planning to take again for 700+ on math in may.

SAT II'S: 750 biology-M freshman year, planning to take U.S. history in June

ECs: VP of 2 clubs (member freshman & sophomore years)

National Art Honors Society (3 years)

Track and Field (2 years)

I tutor homeless students bi-weekly (3 years)

Religious School (2-3 hours per week, 3 years)

Active member of 2 other clubs (3 years)

Work experience: Religious school teacher assistant (1 year)

I know these are reaches, but what are my chances?

Your GPA’s a bit low for those schools-- hopefully you can keep pulling it up by demonstrating a positive trend.

If you can get Math to a solid 700-720 you’d be good for test scores. A 2250 is pretty competitive by any standard. If you could break 2300, that’d really be awesome. Good luck!

You have pretty solid ECs. Try for some more leadership positions for next year.

As for your chances: Those are pretty tough schools to get into. Make sure you also apply to a safety or two. That said, I think you’re solid. You won’t get into all of them, but you also won’t get into none of them. Keep working on your grades and SAT, and get a few more leadership positions maybe, and you’ll be a pretty competitive applicant.

I agree with litotes. Your GPA is a bit low, but you do have a good chance. I could see you getting into JHU or a school of similar level. The best thing you can do now is get your SAT math score up (I know the curve makes it really hard), keep your grades up and make your application the best you possibly can when it comes time to apply.

I think your GPA may be okay for Emory, but I’m not so sure for Wash U and Cornell. You have a good amount of EC’s (It’s good to not spread yourself thinly across a ton rather than do a few well-colleges like to see that). Try to boost your GPA as best you can during the final months of the year.

What kind of classes do you take (Have you/are you taking AP or honors courses)? That will also help you look good–a B in an honors class, I’ve been told, may look like an A in a regular-level course.

thanks for the help!! I take all honors/or AP equivalent classes (my school doesn’t offer APs) except in English and in Math. My school also doesn’t weight my GPA. I’m also a pretty talented artist, but I don’t think I’ll have a complete portfolio finished by the time I apply for college (I’m a sculptor, a portfolio requires 26 pieces!!!). Also, I’m not planning on going to art school. Would my artistic talents help?? (Part of the reason my GPA is low is b/c I spend so much time working on projects haha)
