I know my SAT scores aren't great but im retaking them this summer and hopefully I can get into the 1900's 2000 range. Do I have to take the ACT as well? this im confused about, is it required to apply for West Point?
and I guess what do i need to improve on? and what helpful tips do you guys suggest for applying to the Academy?

You don’t have to take the ACT but it is recommended. Some kids do better on the ACT than the SAT, and USMA will take either, so it is to your advantage to take both.

I can’t tell you your chances of an appointment since I do not work in admissions, but based on what you posted I think you look like a good candidate and should apply.

Good luck!

I have two sons, one a WP grad, the other a Plebe. From my experience, the admissions board looks at the whole person for their leadership potential. Case in point, one of my son’s high school performance was not stellar. After enlisting, then applying, was accepted. The other son was a National Merit Scholar. Be advised, grades aren’t everything. WP is looking for highly motivated, career oriented leaders. Your resume looks great by the way. It will largely depend on how you compare to the other applicants. Do not give up on yourself!

“the admissions board looks at the whole person”

Yes - a whole candidate score is calculated - 60% academics (SAT/ACT Scores and class rank are very important), 30% leadership potential (athletic participation and leadership roles in EC activities are very important), 10% physical fitness (CFA score)

Definitely try and improve your SAT scores and take the ACT as well if at all possible.
