I'll also be applying to Dartmouth, Columbia, U of Miami, Uconn, Princeton, Wesleyan, NYU, and Northeastern.

Do not apply to NYU. Its financial aid is awful and you would need a lot of aid. URM status will help. What is your GPA?

Specifically, what is your unweighted GPA (on a 4.0 scale)?

Your ECs might not be strong enough

ECs are weak. You need leadership positions! You have to raise your scores. SAT needs to be at least 2250 to be competitive and ACT 33+. Yale will still be a reach with those scores, though. Also, I really can’t chance you without your GPA.

Good luck!

Show more passion in your extra-curriculars! I didn’t get a sense of what makes you tick from what you wrote!

@BrownStudent19 A higher SAT/ACT score would be a plus. The OP already has three hooks: under-represented minority, low income, and first generation. Many of those students are accepted with stats that are lower than average.

@rockyroad01 did you set up a Questbridge account? Yale is a reach for everyone. The school has a 7% acceptance rate. Even if you had impeccable stats, there is still a very high chance for rejection.

@tola2015‌ I agree that she could get in with lower than average scores perhaps because of her background but I still think unless she raises her scores to at least a 2050 or around a 31 she won’t even be considered.

Everyone is considered.

NYU is known for being very expensive. I was going to apply but the cost scared me away.

My UW GPA is a 3.8, sorry for not putting it down!
And I am applying for Questbridge

@BrownStudent19‌ thanks! Anything you suggest for me to do? I’m mostly likely going to be the Academic Team captain this year, but since it’s not official, I didn’t include it.

You have a higher chance due to your background, BUT in order to get in, you need to increase your SAT score to about 2150, or do well on the ACT. If you have the chance, grasp any leadership opportunities available. Start working on your essays, pour your heart out!

@floraflora‌ thanks! Anything you suggest?

@Dream0n thanks!

I’m also bilingual; I didn’t even think about writing this originally since speaking Spanish is just so normal to me

I think the most important thing for you to do is raise your scores. Study a lot! I don’t know exactly what your scores in each section were but I improved in reading by studying vocab. Writing is also pretty easy to improve to look into raising that score.

Spend a lot of time working on essays. They’re really important at Ivy League schools because they can set you apart from the rest of the over-qualified applicants.

Definitely work on leadership positions. You can also start something independently that’s easy like a small charity drive. Try something that will show you are independent, driven, and ambitious.

Best of luck!

@BrownStudent19‌ thank you so much! (:

You need to break 2300+ on the SAT or 35+ on the ACT for a good chance at Yale (50% chance). My advice is work as hard as you can this summer; it can make a big difference in your future.

@WhartonnotHYPS‌ thanks!
