What are my chances getting into CSULB?

I am a junior in high school and have taken 3 honor classes and 1 AP class and have taken 3 years of a foreign language.
I plan to take 2 more AP classes my senior year.
My gpa is a 3.97
My SAT scores are not good: 590 math, 440 writing, 540 writing.
I am in student government and in the top 2% of my high school class.

also Varsity Water Polo for 2 years, Varsity swimming 2 years, jv tennis 2 years, jv water polo 1 year
got 4.0 5 out of 6 semesters.

If you’re a California resident, you are in for sure. Retake your SAT scores and you’ll have a chance at mid-tier UCs.

are you serious!! you make me feel so bad about even applying to csulb now. your pretty much a shoe-in.

CSUs do not consider your writing SAT as part of their admission criteria so the 440 in W will not hurt you. You have a CR + M SAT of 1130 which I believe is a little above the average for accepted students at CSULB in recent years. Your 3.97 GPA should be well above the average and is the strongest part of your application. CSUs get so many applications that I have heard that they basically just feed your GPA and CR + M SAT scores into the computer which determines where you rank as an applicant. CSU admission committees do not have the time or resources to wade through essays and ECs so it is pretty much your stats that get you admitted or not. One other thing that is important in applying to a CSU is where you live. CSULB received nearly 70,000 applications last year for about 6,000 positions and is considered an impacted CSU campus. That means that if you are not applying from their service area you will need considerably stronger credentials than applicants in their service area to be accepted.

Oh sorry meant to write 440 critical reading and 540 writing would I be able to get in with a 440 for critical reading

Going off of what Lemaitre1 said, if you’re part of the service area, those SAT scores should be fine. If you aren’t, I definitely suggest you re-take them to have a better chance of getting in.

Chris1993, Unfortunately, I think it does make a considerable difference in your chances. It brings your CR+M SAT score down from 1,130, which is probably above the CSULB average for admitted freshmen down to 1,030, which is probably below the average for admitted freshmen in the past year. I have read that the CSU admission computer algorithm weighs SAT scores at 35% of your total score for admission. You still have a very high GPA and that is probably weighted at least as high as your SAT scores. The difference is probably determined by whether you are in the CSULB service area or not.

I live in California about 3 hours away does that help?

Your school should be able to tell you if yo are in the CSULB service area. Also, check CSU Mentor to see if that campus has “higher standards!”
