I've been on the fence on applying... kinda the last days since the deadline is Jan. 15th. Nevertheless, I'm a black male and currently a high school senior. My G.P.A. is a 3.16. I'm in the top third of my class. My SAT scores were 1310 which is kinda low to me, just including Verbal and math would be 930. I've did several community service projects in the Leo's club, Red Cross and at the Voting Poll . I've been in Concert,Symphonic and Marching band all 4 years of high school and currently the Drum Major of the Marching band. I also got the leading role in my school play my junior year (I don't know if that helps in the application process lol) So what are my chances?! Thanks! :)

Fox…You must know your GPA and test scores are below what JMU considers acceptable, however you do have very nice EC’s, with music and theater and all, and also your URM would be considered…I think you have a good chance go ahead, and go for it. What have you got to lose, 40.00? Good Luck!

Alright Thanks for the information! :)

Although your scores and GPA are low for JMU, if you like the school it can’t hurt to apply.

What is your intended major? The music and theatre is only really a boost if you plan on auditioning to major in music or theatre, and are admitted to the program.

Do you plan to try to participate in the marching band at JMU? I am not sure if that would be considered a “hook” or not.

Contact your regional admissions counselor at JMU, he or she would be able to give you a better idea because they will be more familiar with your particular high school.

Good Luck! :)

Hi I too am a black male and I am looking at JMU and have a similar resume to yours and was wondering if you were accepted of not. I just wanted to know what my chances are to getting in JMU.
