What are my chances! HELP!

Hi I live in PuertoRico, but my parents are currently living in Tampa,Florida(so I have residency). I have about a 3.50 gpa and i scored a 930 on SAT (math 450 CR 480 Writing 470) I know my scores are really bad and even better i have no extracurricular activities only some community service oh and I have a job, I was treasurer of my 9 grade graduation(since in PR high school start 10-12) and I did my 9 grade graduation speech, umm I was 1 semester in DECA(marketing association thing)...not much i know. Well I might get into some extracurricular activities on my senior year since im just finishing my junior year. I would like to know what are my chances into getting into these colleges: University of Florida, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, or University of Tampa. Please recommend any other other university that I might have chances getting into. Thanks. [sorry if I have any bad spelling I just dont want to check :p]

anyone please!!!

can anyone please give me some advice???

Your GPA is good enough for those schools, but I don't think your SAT's/EC's would be acceptable to them. I think you'll have to go to community college for a year or two, hope you get a good GPA, and apply to the others after that. Or you could just take the SAT's again, and, after a lot of practice tests, you're bound to get a few points higher.

Yeah I am planning on taking the SAT again on October, thanx for your advice.

UF - Huge Reach
UCF - Small Reach
USF - Match to Reach
Tampa - Match

Other schools you should apply to if you really want to go to a university:
FAU
Nova
Gulf Coast
Florida Southern
FSU

Thanx :D last person who posted really lowered my hopes!!! xP

Anyone Else??

Sorry If I lowered your hopes but with a 930 SAT and no EC its going to hurt. If you raise your SAT score to an 1000 your chances at UCF and USF become matches.

UF is out of the question unless you raise your SAT to at least at 1350 IMO.

But hey, I am no college expert so this is just my opinion, don't let it affect your hopes one bit.

UF - Huge Reach
UCF - Slight Reach
USF - Slight Reach/Match
U of Tampa - Match

Don't forget about University of North Florida, University of West Florida, Rollins College, Eckerd College

"Other schools you should apply to if you really want to go to a university:
FAU

FSU"

FSU does not belong on that list. FSU is light years ahead of most Florida public universities, besides UF. Comparing it to those schools is sort of insulting. FAU does not belong on that list either.
For the state of Florida, the pecking order is:
1-UF
2-FSU
3-USF
4-UCF
5-FIU/FAU
6-All the rest

I think your GPA looks very solid, just re-take the SAT until you get a better score.

Agreed. Although I think USF/UCF are about the same in a lot of respects, so I think you could condense the list by one.

Florida Southern? I've never heard of that...

Do you think it might help that I have taken 7 classes each year 9-12 exept in 10 when I only took 6, instead of the average 5 classes per year??? by the way thanx for your advices!!!

ello anyone?

I agree with FSU MBA and FAU_Guy. Depending on what you want to study, FSU can also be > UF.

What areas are you interested in, it can make a big difference.

Florida Southern is a small, private LAC in Lakeland, FL. Nice school.

I plan on getting a degree in chemistry (BA or AA still dont know)

bump bump??

Rated on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

University of Florida... HIGH REACH.
University of South Florida... SEMI-REACH.
University of Central Florida... REACH.
University of Tampa... GOOD FIT.

Also, I can give you some suggestions of schools that would be more good fits/likelys/safeties. I don't know much about colleges in Florida specifically, but here are some colleges in which your SAT scores fall between the 25%-75% quartile within the state according to College Board... Barry University, Bethune-Cookman College, Jacksonville University, Johnson & Wales University: North Miami, Lynn University, St. Leo University.

FSU MBA I was in way insulting FSU, I just think with his low GPA he should apply to a ton of FLA schools and hope to get in.

What if somehow he gets into FSU it would be a great school for him.

No way was I trying to insult FSU, I love that school and I actually would rather go their over UF. I live in Florida and right now FSU is my number 1 in state school, I know how hard it is to get into.

Chemistry? Clearly FSU or UF. Both are similarly ranked.

Tough academic programs, though. Bring plenty of midnight oil.

Current US News national ranking of graduate chemistry programs:

UF 40
FSU 48
Others are unranked

Physics (you'll need plenty)
UF 42
FSU 45
Others are unranked.

While these are graduate listings, there is considerable crossover in staff to the undergraduate level.
