what are my chances of getting into umass amherst guys

Is the SAT with writing, or is it just the math + verbal?

unless that is math+verbal, i would say you have absolutely no chance. getting into community college would even be a struggle for you.

If your SAT score is 1500 out of 2400, UMass Amherst would be a reach for you. A better bet is to go to a community college (and no, it won't be a struggle to get in), prove you can do college level work by doing well, graduate, and then transfer to a four year state college or university for your junior and senior years.

I think that Karan and Amptron are giving VERY poor advice. Keep in mind that the students that post on CC are well above average, academically.

For UMASS Amherst:
SAT - Verbal Range (25-75%): 510-620
SAT - Math Range (25-75%): 520-630

BTW, the writing section is NOT required at UMASS Amherst. If you got a 500 and 500, for UMASS Amherst you are just below the "50% middle." Your GPA is low, but are there extenuating circumstances? Consider some of the other UMASS schools that have lower admission requirements.Get good grades, then transfer to Amherst. Your SAT scores are almost exactly at the national average. Keep in mind that not all students that take the SAT attend 4 year colleges.

From Collegeboard.com.

For the class of 2006:

Mathematics scores dipped by 2 points to 518, returning to the level of two years ago. Both male and female mathematics scores declined by 2 points to 536 and 502, respectively.

Average critical reading scores decreased 5 points to 503. The critical reading score decline was more pronounced among males. Male scores declined by 8 points to 505; female scores by 3 points to 502.

I re-read amptron2x's post, and agree with most of what Amtron said. Is Rehan ready for college level work? I don't think there is enough information to know for certain.

u are south asian - and that may work against u sometimes
