Since Middle school, I have wanted to go to stanford. When i started high school, I was behind because of the little middle school I went to prior to applying to my high school. I honestly dont know what happpend. In middle school, I had a 3.8, 3.9 GPA and in the NJHS, and I had some other cool academic accomplisments as well. Im not going to sit here and cry about all personal stuff that has happened through my H.S. career, I will give you one example. I didnt find this out about myself until just a few months ago, but I took a learning test, and iq test at a learning center where I live, The results came back and It said my memory was horrible and my math comprehension is horrific. I wish i had done that while I was in elementary and middle school and I would have known how to work through H.S. better and im sure I would have a higher GPA than what i have now. Im trying not to seem like a “soar looser” but it is what is. My question to you, My thing with applying to MIT and Stanford is it doesnt hurt to try, I have seen RARE occasions where a student or two might get into a school like that with similar stats like me, but they also have sports, extra curriculars, and Leadership. I feel like I could have a CHANCE because I have all of those. Ive done scientific research, Im a competitive swimmer, built games, computers, im a lifeguard, the list goes on. What are some more things you recommend so I can improve to make my application stand out from other students who are applying that are in my “Same Boat”? Im also studying to get a higher ACT Score and Im working on writing a Well written personal statement. there is not much i can do concerning my GPA, However, i am taking pre-calc and Physics next year and that will hopefully show the admissions that i am pushing myself harder and harder each year.
Thanks for your response,
-Ken
