What are my chances in GA?

Hey guys! I’m a senior this year in high school and am reeeeaaaally stressing about college. My GPA’s not so hot so I’m hoping the rest of my app can compensate in some way. I can’t afford to go out of state really so I’m mainly worried about in state at the moment, so I’ll apply to GA Tech, UGA, Kennesaw State, Georgia State University, and, because I have family in Alabama, UAB. IF you guys can chance me on those (or mention any other schools you think I could make) then I’d appreciate it a ton!

GPA: 3.55 unweighted, +1 point for AP’s makes it a 3.87. About a 3.7ish on Tech’s system

SAT: 1510 on NEW SAT. Didn’t take ACT

AP’s: Will have taken 10 by the time I graduate, 2 of which are 1 semester, but 4 are this year. Current AP’s are BC Calculus, Macroeconomics, German, and Physics C

AP Exams: So far I’ve gotten 5’s on AP World, APUSH, and AP Stat, and a 4 on Physics 1. Haven’t taken Psychology exam yet

EC’s: 80 hours of volunteer work at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. 4 year German Club member. Competed at the State German Convention for 4 years (this will be my 4th) and did very well each year. Member of National German Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Did very well on the National German Exam for 3 years (got 2nd, 5th, and 7th places statewide, in that order). Was offered a trip to Germany for 3 weeks over the summer but declined for various reasons, mainly family. 4 year member of the quiz bowl team (one that was state champions 2 years in a row and appeared on local television twice). I’ve played the flute since 6th grade. 4 year Marching Band member and I’m a head section leader this year. I’m a member of my school’s symphonic band and attened District Honor Band last year. And I was a GHP finalist last year. For those of you that don’t know, GHP (Governor Honors Program) is a statewide competition in various subjects. Teachers pick their best students to compete, and It consists of a series of interviews and tests, and those that are selected stayed at Valdosta State University for 4 weeks over the summer. About 600 of us went, which is about 3% of all those who were nominated. It’s my biggest thing on my application by a good margin.

Other stuff: I’m graduating with several extra credits than required. In addition to my required courses, I took Algebra I and a physical science (combined physics/chemistry) class in 8th grade which counted for credit, as well as AP Psychology and a semester each of health and PE online. I’m graduating at 17 due to skipping a grade in elementary school. I’m a white male.

Tell me what you think! Lemme know if I can maybe get into any of those schools above and list any other good schools I could make. Be honest. I won’t get butthurt that easily :stuck_out_tongue:

Definitely a good chance for GA Tech with that SAT, gpa is a bit low though but not a deal breaker.

KSU GSU and UGA are all super safeties for you and I’m sure you’ll get lots of merit scholarships from them if you go.

I think with your GPA you’re iffy for Tech unless you’re a non-Asian minority and/or female (though your username suggests you are not female  ). Your GPA is even a little low for UGA, but given your ECs and GHP, I think you’ll get in there. Kennesaw is a definite, GA State similar. Good luck!!

Teach and UGA are both iffy with your gpa. UGA is ridiculous with admissions, which doesn’t show with the acceptance rate. It depends on the area you live in also, but your test scores are a little higher and your rigor is about average for there. If you applied EA, they only look at grades, rigor, and test scores. Though you are qualified for UGA, this does not mean you will get in. LOTS of highly qualified people don’t get in, but it depends on area even though they say this doesn’t affect their decision (for instance, I know someone who had a 4,1 and a 34 act who applied 3 years ago and didn’t get in. She went to one of the top public schools in East Cobb). You are very qualified, it’s just that UGA is always a wild card. The other 2 instates are definites.
