What are my chances in getting MIT, Calitech or Cornell ???

I am a sophomore. In Freshman I took three honor courses and the rest regular classes. My unweighted GPA was 4.0 and weighted 4.25. I took two summer courses with A in both. (I never got below A in the middle school also.) Now I am taking an AP course in social studies, honors courses in Communication Art (English) and Algebra 2, and so far getting all A's'. I love band, French, and Debate. I am taking these as my courses. My strengths are in Math and Science. I plan to take AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP Physics in the next two years. And I am consistent in grades as well as taking some courses like French since elementary and band since middle school. My school has not said but I believe, I am within top 5%.

I have also been in the gifted program since elementary. Was a silver medalist in one event in the national level science olympiad last year, several medals in state level science championship and fourth place in future city competition. Regarding EC - I am the student leader in a technology club and an active member in three other clubs. I have not taken SAT/PSAT yet, but plan to take. I have only a few hours in social services (volunteer) which I like to expand.

What are my chances getting in MIT, Calitech or Cornell ? My dream is to get into MIT. Any suggestions..

You’re a very impressive student and you’re on the right track to those colleges but no one can accurately chance you until they know your junior grades and SAT scores.

sentimentGX4,
Thank you for the reply with encouraging words.

You could be promising, but NO ONE can assess your chances based on freshman or middle school achievement. Keep challenging yourself with AP or equivalent courses, no one is really going to get into MIT by taking standard classes at an average high school. Make sure you show interest in whatever interests you. Study hard for the SATs, etc. Good luck.

Yeah, you’re on the right track. However, kids like you get rejected every year.

Keep doing what you love and have fun.

It is nearly two years now since I posted this thread. I just completed junior year and got my grades also. Going to work with college applications over the summer. I am seeking suggestion/advice in application. My stats are:

Unweighted GPA 4.0(max 4.0) Weighted GPA 4.55; Rank 1 unweighted, 2 weighted.
School sends about 15 to 20 graduates every year to Ivy and other top 10 colleges.

Course rigor – most core courses are pre-AP and AP. These include Pre-AP Bio, AP Chemistry, AP Physics (snr yr), AP English Language, AP Eng Lit (snr yr), AP Calc AB (snr yr), AP Stat(snr yr) AP US His, AP Euro His, AP US Gov (snr yr), Pre AP French. By the end of senior year, I will have a total 9 AP and 7 pre-AP courses

Course strength: 5 full-year courses in science and a one-year Science Research Project; 5 full year courses in math; 4 full year course in English and 4 full year courses in French

SAT- 2320 (CR 760, M 780,W 780)
Taking SAT Subject tests on Chemistry, Math II and US His. Expecting 750+, 800, 750+, respectively

ECs: Don’t have any “wow” factor, but do have some participation and a few awards.

-Second and eighth places in Science Olympiad national championship.
-Participated in Science Knowledge Bowl state championships
-Volunteered in Middle School Science Olympiad competitions

-FBLA State champion in 2011 and 2012

-7 years in Marching Band (including 3 years in Middle school), Trombone section leader

-Received The President’s Volunteer Service Award - 2010 and 2011. Will earn about 700 hours of community services by the time of college application.

-Going to volunteer three weeks in teaching science, English and music, at an orphanage school in a remote, third world country in Asia.

Looking for a strong Chemical or Bio-medical Engineering undergrad program. How are my chances of getting an admission to -

MIT (my dream school), Columbia, Stanford, Rice, UC Berkeley, Cornell, Duke, UT Austin and Johns Hopkins. I like to live in a big city :-)

I am planning to work hard on my science research project. What other things should I consider to improve my chances ?

I don’t get why you spend so much time on community service unless you enjoy helping… You should use that time to pursue further in college education(level)

You have a decent chance at MIT, columbia, Stanford, Duke. and Caltech, but are still unlikely. Much better chance at Cornell and Rice honestly you will probably get in there. Pretty good shot at UC Berkeley and JHU. In at UT austin.

Also take a look at Carnegie Mellon.

shut the **** up prototyped

To WoolLyMammoth -

Why did you comment so ? Is there any thing wrong in asking ? This is the chance thread, where people ask right !
