I am getting recommendations from my teachers. One is a math teacher who taught me in two classes and who I grew close with, who graduated from TCNJ honors with a 1550 SAT. One is the supervisor for all of the arts in my school, who graduated from 3 separate colleges, has her masters in education and a certificate for supervision and also has a pilot's license. The last is my AP history teacher who gives some of the most amazing recommendations on the planet, and wrote them for about 5/60 students who asked him this year.

To note for TCNJ, I attended an interview for a scholarship at the school in August and my admissions counselor liked me and also rolled my application over to another scholarship, based around not only academics but activity as well.

So, what are my chances at the 5 schools I listed?
I know my SAT scores are miserable but I'm actually studying for the ones in October. I also plan on applying ED to TCNJ...

So, I'm just nervous about college and I don't know if I'll be able to get in. anyone want to let me know what might happen?

And also, not that it matters too much, but my awards include:
Perfect Attendance (All 4 years of High School)
High Honors (All 4 years)
Spelling Bee Champion (8th grade, which doesn't matter too much)
National Hispanic Scholar Nominee

and add Journalism and Contemporary Issues to my Social Sciences that I'm taking this year.

I'm from NJ, so I know the schools...

Based on your SATs, TCNJ is a bit of a reach for you (call it a low reach), even with your URM status. On the other hand, your GPA, class rank, and ECs are pretty good and right in line with the other kids who are applying to TCNJ. My guess is, you'll be accepted. Up your M+CR to 1250 or above, and that will make it a lock.

You should be accepted at all the rest.

Yeah, the only reach for you is TCNJ. If you get a better SAT you should have no trouble getting in (I'd recommend shooting for at least 1300). The rest are matches/safeties.

thanks guys :)

I'm gonna ask in addition to this - are there any schools that I'm missing that I'd be well qualified for? I want to stay in state and TCNJ impressed me the most out of the schools I visited. Am I missing somewhere?

OH, and to add onto TCNJ -- I'm majoring in education. Which I think TCNJ really likes? lol.

Take a look at Richard Stockton. I have heard some nice things. I know someone who says that they are majoring in special education there, and they feel that it is a strong program and are very satisfied.

Montclair State is also strong for education. There is always Rutgers.

Richard Stockton and Rutgers are def. worth taking a look at as well

def. rutgers.

Well from what my friends at TCNJ tell me, education is a pretty strong field there so the education is definitely worth it. Also, just a question, but is the scholarship you interviewed for from TCNJ because I'm just wondering how the whole merit aid and scholarship issue is developing. Good luck fellow NJ native. :D

The scholarship was the Chairman of the Board Scholarship. I was mailed a letter and I called for an interview, and I guess the Scholarship is based on all around character. I'm applying for merit-based scholarship as well which I believe depends on the essay/short answers (there's a separate application for the scholarship) as well as GPA, class rank and SAT scores. Which I have 2/3 of. So, if I get any money, it will be from the Chairman of the Board Scholarship or the Activity type scholarship that my admissions counselor referred me to.

as long as your SATs go up a little you'll get into all of those. You should apply and get in Rutgers as well.. and MSU. Willy P..... you're WAY above willy p.

Your stats are pretty much exactly like mine so I have a pretty good idea where you're coming from. TCNJ is a low reach. Rowan, Ramapo, William Patterson, and Monmouth are all safeties. You'll probably get money to go to anyone of them. I have a 1210 and Monmouth sent me a letter that said they most likely give me 10,000 a year to attend. You definitely want to look at Rutgers. It's a match school and fits most people's interests.

Drew University is nice, but probably smaller than what you're looking for?

I've heard good things about Stockton, and how about Rider if you need serious money?

haha allllllllllllllllllll new jersey.

I'm from there too...I'm applying to rutgers and tcnj...rutgers is an awesome school and would be a really nice match for you, people have gotten into the new brunswick campus with much lower grades than you from my school, so i think you'd be fine....SAT's up to like maybe 1250 would be enough.

How about this:

I was selected as a National Hispanic Scholar (aka Finalist)

AND

I was selected as a 2006 Chairman of the Board Scholar, with a 4-year renewable award of $10,000 (x 4 = 40,000).

So... here's my question: If they selected me as a Scholar, does that mean I'll be admitted? Or should I not count any chickens before they hatch?

shameless bump!

Yes, I do think if they selected you as a scholar, you will almost certainly be admitted.

you can get a very good education at many schools. So my fellow Americans, do not sweat much over where you end up. I spent 6 years at Yale but learnt a lot more after graduating.
