What are my chances? (International student)

Hi guys! I’m an international student, currently a rising senior, from South Korea.
I will be applying to NYU (NY campus) as ED 1 or ED 2 this year, so I’d appreciate a lot if you guys can help me with my chances getting in. My intended major in NYU is economics with joint major in mathematics (CAS), here come my stats.

SAT: 1300(600R / 700M) → 1380 (610R / 770M)

ACT: 28 composite

GPA UW: 3.9 (consistently on upper trend)
GPA W: 4.12

AP: Calculus BC-5, Biology-4, Microeconomics-4, Macroeconomics-3, Statistics-3, Psychology-3.

Sat subject tests: Biology M 740, Math 2C 770.

Course rigor: (Grade 10) Algebra 2 honors, (Grade 11) AP Biology, AP Chemistry, (Grade 12) AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics,
German honors.

Activities: Biotechnology lab assistant, varsity volleyball, student council treasurer, DECA business club member, model united nations (leader), economics club (leader), TKD club, student court (head judge), student journalist (chief editor) trekking club, school-representing relay-race runner, math tutor club (leader), wrote and published a thesis on econometrics.

Volunteers: Church technical support(1 year), taught English and TKD to low-income kids(1 year), student chief translator(1 year), peer counsel(1 year)

Awards: Pascal math olympiad - certificate of distinction, AP scholar with distinction, english presentation 1st place, math team competition 2nd place, global academic olympiad English section gold medal, academic excellence, easter choir 1st place, exemplary student, English debate silver medal, German speaking 3rd place, ARML local 6th place, German / AP Statistics / AP Biology - academic excellence.

Essay: My CommonApp essay is about me going through hardships and finally overcoming them in Canada. Not being able to speak fluent English, I was culturally and lingually isolated from the society - homestay and school (I had Mexican/Italian host family). I was severely exposed to drug use (I never did drugs but you know…) and racial discriminations all around the place. Everything changed when I met an Asian man who was unable to communicate in English and got humiliated by passengers on the public bus. I reflected myself to him and found myself (being isolated from the society because of racial and lingual differences) in him, realizing absurdity of cultural, lingual, and racial barriers. I started to change from that experience.

Rec: German teacher and me have had such a great academic and personal relationship for three years and he knows my real passion towards economics and learning, English teacher challenges me intellectually and she has watched me growing through hardships and those challenges, AP Biology teacher who is the real witness of my invisible efforts and dedication in academics

Financial aid: My family can handle the tuitions and stuff, so I’m certainly not applying for any financial aid.

Ethnicity: Korean, asian male (oh no…).

I’ve heard that NYU’s acceptance rate is getting drastically lower, which drives me crazyyyyyyy. The big thing is, the acceptance rate for international students has always been much tougher than it has been for domestic students. NYU is my dream school, it is the place that I want to be for my next 4 years!!! To increase my chance getting in, I’ll definitely take one more SAT and ACT later (hoping to get 1450+ on SAT and 32+ on ACT). What are my objective chances for getting in?

Just in case if I don’t get into NYU, I’m planning to apply to these schools as RD. Please chance me for these schools, too.

  • Boston University
  • Carnegie Mellon University
  • Boston College
  • University of Washington
  • University of Minnesota
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Purdue University
  • University of Virginia

It’d be great if current NYU students or graduates give me some helpful feedbacks, but I would also appreciate a lot for non-NYU users’ comments. Have a great day, everyone!
