I'm maintaining a 3.5 Gpa at my CC.
Im planning on transferring into Bio-Chem
I have 33 units so far, but all mainly GE.
I'm only need 1 class to complete to finish IGETC (physical science)
I've filled out a Tag for pretty much all the UCs that have it. and also UCLA
What are my chances on getting into my colleges of choice?

Pre-reqs are more important than IGETC. If you have all your PRE-REQUISITES for bio-chem done, you have a really good chance for all UCs except LA and Berkeley. I’m not really sure about what kind of stance you stand in LA or Berk because it’s hard to judge except based on average GPA.

Btw, if you’re missing 3 pre-reqs in bio-chem (check college by college)… you’re pretty much auto-rejected from all UCs.

well i still need 20 more credits after this semester to transfer, i was wondering how my standing is for tag application right now :)

I know that biochem is impacted at UCSD and UCI, and more than likely at all the other UCs as well. That being the case, the TAG is pretty much useless for you. As an impacted major, you’re not going to be guaranteed that major, you’ll be competing with everyone else for a spot. The pre-reqs are really going to hurt you, too, especially if 33 of your units are “mostly” GEs like you said.

Your grades from this semester will be the last ones used by the reviewers of your application, and if you still have ~20 units of pre-reqs remaining after that, that’s something they won’t look at positively.

Basically, it doesn’t matter if you get a 4.0 this spring/summer in all your pre-reqs; those grades won’t be used to determine your acceptance. The cutoff is this fall.

Hope that doesn’t discourage you too much.

Where are people getting this idea that you are not guaranteed into your major?

<a href=“Understanding UC transfer | UC Admissions”>Understanding UC transfer | UC Admissions;

TAG matrix says otherwise for most UCs.

@rizkizle: The two “best” UCs with TAG programs are UCSD and UCI, neither of which guarantee you a major. UCSD is more stringent than UCI, but look at last year’s threads. Quite a few people with TAGs were not granted admission to the selective UCI majors.

If you want to go to UCR or UCM (or UCD, apparently) you’ll have a much easier time.

Yeah I know about being admitted to college only for a lot of majors at UCSD, but most of the other UCs guarantee admittance to any major with TAG, even impacted ones. TAG is definitely not useless for him as you said. It’s a guaranteed backup school incase he doesn’t get into UCLA/UCSD.

Eh, of that list you had, only three (UCD, UCR and UCM) really guarantee you a major when you meet the TAG requirements.

just say you’re taking them over the summer… UCI and UCSD probably won’t care a ton. UCB and UCLA will.
