I'm currently a senior in high school right now. I have went through some personal issues during my freshman and sophomore year and had a gpa of a 2.18. yes i know ridiculous. Junior year i managed to get a 3.5 that year which boosted my gpa to a 2.65. This year i am doing just as good and decided to challenge myself a little. This year is my first year with AP, Honors, and Accelerated classes. Im taking AP Biology, AP Psychology, Accelerated English, Honors Pre Calc, and German 3. By the end of the year, I believe i will have a 3.0. I had people tell me to write in my essays mention why my gpa is low so colleges will understand. Do you think they will understand? What are my chances?

I'm looking into: Chatham University, Duquesne University, Pitt, Slippery Rock University, Seton Hill University, and Gannon University.

I do not want to go to community college at all.

I think you can probably get into Slippery Rock at least even now. Pitt not so much. If you can get strong grades this semester and write good essays explaining your situation, you should get into a few of your choices. Good test scores can also make up for you rather poor GPA. The good thing is that you performed pretty well last year so I think some of the colleges you’re looking at will view you favorably enough to accept you. Also, I think you could consider one of the Pitt branch campuses as well. It looks to me like you’re from Pittsburgh and want to stay home so that’s why I’m suggesting that. This will also make transferring into Pitt-Oakland a lot easier if you’re still interested in it in the future.

I am from Bangladesh and passed in electrican enginering with 2.87 out of 4.0 and i want to get into carleton university for masters. should i apply there?

annamarie what are your standardized test scores? We need them to give a better chance and also congratulations on your improvement since freshman and soph year, I know colleges love to see that.
