What are my chances? Maryland Colleges!

Hey everybody, let me start off by introducing myself and some of my high school stats. I'm about to finish my junior year of high school, and looking forward very much to moving forward to college after next year.

In my freshman year, I got a 3.52 GPA, sophomore year a 3.56, and junior year a 3.42, for what I believe is an overall high school GPA (unweighted) of 3.50. (oh and it's like overall a 4.1 ish unweighted)

Freshman year, I took mainly honors and a few GT classes, and did fairly well in them. On a side note, I started out in English 9 Reg (and am currently getting an A in English 11 AP), which shows major improvement. Sophomore year, I increased the rigor of my classes by moving up to English 10 GT and taking a higher level French class, and my GPA actually improved! On another note, I started off in Algebra 2, then went to Functions and Trig, and am currently in Precalculus. I did pretty well in Algebra 2 and Trig, but unfortunately have a C (my only C in high school ever) in Precalc for the year, which I feel might hurt my chances. Other than that though, I have taken a few AP classes this year and done fairly well in them, such as World History AP and English 11 AP, and got an A in each one! So even though my GPA has gone down a little junior year, there is generally a lot of improvement.

For my SATs, I ended up getting 2050 both times with a superscore of 2080. Math: 760 Reading: 680 Writing: 650.

As far as extracurriculars go, I have run Cross Country at my school every year, and it's something I'm very passionate about (which I will certainly write about in my essays if it flows properly in my writing). I am very involved in running, and although I'm not really active in a wide array of extracurriculars, I really try to focus on the few things that I am involved in. Also, I run track in the winter to keep in shape! I am additionally a member of my school's National Honor Society, our Fitness Club, and an active member in our Finance and Investment Club

I would like to know my chances of getting into local colleges, such as University of Maryland College Park, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Salisbury University, American University, as well as some suggestions of other places I should apply to and be able to get into. Thanks! :)

I think your chances are pretty good for these schools. Your GPA did go down which is not something that colleges like to see (I would assume) but you did take harder classes as the years went on which I think makes it kind of ok for the drop. Your sat score looks pretty good as well. Anything above a 2000 usually puts you in a very good place. Things to keep in mind: did you take any AP’s? Did you do any SAT II tests? I understand these are not needed for all universities but if you did good in any of these I think it would make you look better. Also did you do any community service or any other EC’s?

So far you look like you have a good chance but try to separate yourself. GOOD LUCK!

Consider St. Mary’s College of Maryland (public honors college). They had a downturn in admissions this year due to a few missteps in their admissions process in the last couple of years, so given that I think you would be good there with your stats. If you haven’t been there it has a liberal-arts summer-campish feel on the St. Mary’s River.
