What are my chances now considering that I've been deferred?

Got my semester grades:

Physics--- A-
Creative Writing-- A
English---A-
Trig----B-
Ap Euro---B-
Web Page---A-
Spanish IV-- A

Physics, English and Spanish are going to help. Too bad about Trip and History. I am pretty sure Web Page won't count...I am not sure if Creative Writing will either. But even then, your grades are good.

But since Michigan Gpa is in effect, the two B-'s are really B's right? So I am okay? I have a good chance of getting in?

Nobody knows for sure Smurfette. This year, Michigan is going to break a few records if you ask me. I am expecting this to be an unusually selective year for Michigan. But your senior grades will definitely not hurt you. They are good. How did you do on the SAT/ACT?

how about mine for engineering?
Ive had a 3.85 UMich GPA up until now

AP Physics B-
AP Calc B
Consumer Economics A
Advanced Lit A
Current Events A-
World History A-

Alexandre-

I got a 23 on my Act's both times. I'm pretty sure that's what got me the deferral. :(

I'm just really scared here....

Also, if I changed my courses, do I have to let U of M know in writing, or should I tell my counselor to tell them?

Creative Writing is NCAA recognized as a Core Writing Class. It counts for me so you should be good too.

I was deferred as well. :/

My grades this semester:
Honors Physics: A
Honors Calc w/ Apps: A
Honors English: Not sure yet, borderline between A and B
AP Statistics: A
AP Economics: A
Honors Chinese 4: A

Although my courseload is kind of weak, I'm glad that my grades this semester were fairly good and have improved from previous years. Ive been told to send a letter and an updated resume... but im hesitant to send a new resume because it would be nearly identical as before.

Unless you are a URM or something else amazing, your chances are not very good.

So if I'm of an ethnicity that doesn't make up a large percent of students, I have good chance? I'm kind of confused and frustrated at the moment.

If you are an URM (African American, Latin American or Native American), yes, it would make a difference.

Gosh I hate people who are full of themselves.

I don't think ap was trying to be arrogant. The grades are good but not amazing, and he/she is only taking 2 AP classes, which might be considered weak at that school. Y'all gotta take it easy.

Yeah. I believe the average number AP classes taken by seniors is about 3.

Not to mention that my GPA to UMich standards is pretty low. I'm kind of lucky that I got deferred.

Every single class was an AP/Honors class. Every single class was an academic class - you don't see any "Gym" or "Psychology". Every single grade was an A. That is a 4.0 GPA. That's not low.

Then you're going to come on here and diminish yourself and your accomplishments this year? What, do you want us to just tell you you're a great student, worked hard and will get in? That's arrogant. I'm sorry. I call it like I see it.

man u know what? ur lucky to even get a response. i'm just frustrated that i got nothing when my app was finished late nov.
my stats everyone said was good 3.9 GPA took three APs last year, 1530 SAT but idk what happened.

Again a2, it's all relative. Not all grades were A's, it sounded like English was up in there air. If in fact English was a B, then ap got a 3.83 this semester, which is about average for a michigan student, and that courseload is probably average for a senior hoping to get into michigan. ap got deferred, it's not like he/she got in and said oh my gosh how did these terrible scores/stats get me in. AP even admitted that the grades were good (presumably better than that in previous semesters) and I agree, I just think you've got some sort of issue you need to resolve. I'm thankful for the info it provided, you should be too.

I'm not sure what you're getting at imiracle. Are you saying you got rejected with those stats? If so, I find that very hard to believe and it must have been a strange situation to get you rejected or deferred with such great numbers. If you weren't rejected, I don't know what you're complaining about. If you had applied in september, you would have been a shoe-in.

no i didn't get any results which annoys me. Someone who applied later than me with lower stats got in like weeks away. i'm just wondering why my app is still pending.

i was deferred 12/2.. semester grades are pretty definite as of right now.. (1st and second marking periods)
AP Calculus: B, B+
AP Euro: B+, A-
AP Spanish 5: B+, some sort of B for sure..
Global Studies - Honors: A, A+

my other 2 classes are gym and peer leadership.. A's across the board. but that doesnt matter.
not very impressive. seems like ive royally screwed myself over. but anyway, an impassioned letter with updated resume? what do you guys think..Alexandre?? be brutally honest. thanks so much...=/

kathendrickson, things are really up in the air for you. I think it's really a coinflip situation. The letter may help. imiracle, these threads are saturated with people that are waiting on their decisions with scores just like you. Your friend with "lower stats" was probably a more well-rounded, had great essays, EC's, or had URM status. It's really nothing to be frustrated over. If you deserved to be admitted earlier, you would have been. They're taking their time for a reason.
