What are my chances? (NYU, USC, UC's, BostonU)

Hi. So first off, I'm so sorry this is quite long. I just want to know what you guys think, as most of you are so accomplished it is actually astonishing to me. If I'm setting my sights too high, I want to be brought back to reality. I plan on majoring in Biology. Depending on the school, I'll minor either in Italian/Romance languages or music. Also, I'll be submitting a supplement of Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique (Mvt 3). Now if you still want to read this and help me out after seeing how long it is... GO! By the way, you rock.

EC activities: (not in any order, but I think there is a main focus?) *** denotes leadership position
1. Italian Club President (11,12)-- secretary in 9 and 10 ***

American Cancer Society Club President (12)-- just elected, served as VP in 11 and member in 9 and 10 **

Event Chair of Relay for Life (elected to lead committee of students for planning our community's Relay for Life which typically raises $80,000, this is basically the top position) (12) In 10 and 11 I was the head of the Entertainment committee. This takes nearly 60 hours of planning on my part for the event, and after the event I lead the committee in other activities (for example, raising money for a student at my school suffering from cancer whose family is having a hard time financing health expenses and a stable living situation for the student's siblings) *

Volunteer for many many hours at an organization in the urban area near me that houses cancer patients (children)-- I work on the living conditions for these patients and their families by making holiday cards, painting, cleaning, organizing, making the place a nice place for the brave kids! I also tutor the patient's siblings.

Intern and volunteer at my local hospital's cancer center

Piano for 11 years, some awards from my conservatory

Flute and Piccolo which I play in my school's band (first chair), my region's orchestra (first chair), my school's musicals, competitions (with some awards), and my region's honor band, and a flute "choir" of mostly professional flautists

Mental Health Awareness Club President and Founder (11,12)-- founded after personal encounter, support group for those suffering from depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, etc., or those whose family or friends are suffering from those illnesses *

Varsity Tennis (9,10,11,12)- elected Captain next year *
*

Hopefully participating in a research program this summer, whether it be a paid program or research with a professor

Robotics team member (though, no leadership position)

possibly next year's band president, though I don't know yet.

Work experience.. WHICH is ANY should be included?
I worked at a sales associate at Nordstrom for 10 and 11, a tennis camp counselor for 9,10, 11. (not very important, I probably won't even include these) These jobs took place all year.
Actually, it is probably relevant, and I totally forgot to include that I teacher flute and piano to elementary school/ middle school students. I charge very little to nothing because most of my students cannot afford to pay a teacher.

Recommendations: Planning on getting these from my language and english teachers. However, I'm planning on studying biology. Should I also get one from my biology teacher? They should be very good, really. I'm very involved in the classroom and in helping my peers, which they recognize.

Other:
I live in California (a wealthy area, too)
Bilingual (can speak, read, write other language)-- I study with a teacher to perfect these skills and am at a high school level in the language
Mom is legacy @ USC
Both parents with Bachelor's, Dad has Master's
Struggled with depression, though I don't want to talk about this much, only in reference to the club I founded and am president of! :)
I took a human biology class at a local community college, receiving an A. I will take an anatomy class this summer if I'm not accepted into a formal research program.

I think my essays will be pretty bomb (sorry for the colloquialism, I just love that word ;)). I'm a fairly good writer so that will definitely be to my advantage.

IF I LEFT ANYTHING OUT, or you have questions, let me know!

Kind of sad to see no A+'s in biology because you should major in something that is really your strong point. Otherwise I think your EC’s are great and some are nicely focused on biology related matters. The rest of your stuff is quite stellar (testing, GPA) I’m guessing UC’s should be absolutely no problem and you might want to go for some higher reach schools (just personal opinion on carpet bomb then collect the best).
Chance me too: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1612387-chance-me-for-brown.html</a></p>

@torusdonut Haha I got like a 98% in AP Bio, but teacher doesn’t give A+s, unfotunately.
On it!

What? That’s pretty stupid of your teacher, I redact my first sentence then…

You look quite good for the UCs and also northwestern. Ecs are strong so are your grades!

My thread (Chance me please): <a href=“Chances to get into Yale, Brown, Tufts, Emory, NYU, Georgetown, George Washington - #11 by LBad96 - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>Chances to get into Yale, Brown, Tufts, Emory, NYU, Georgetown, George Washington - #11 by LBad96 - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums;

@torusdonut Yeah it’s weird haha but oh well

All these college are matches for you. You are very impressive.

Please chance me:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1612197-nyu-lsp-ed-2-chance-me.html#latest</a></p>

Yep, match for all, with possible exception of Northwestern.

Recommend adding University of Rochester to your list. Remember, the Eastman School of Music is part of UR, and Rochester is very strong in all the sciences. However, it is very very cold in winter there. Big adjustment for a Californian (same is true of Northwestern).

They are all high match/low reaches.

All these colleges will be very impressed. Matches for all of them

Thanks for the help guys! It’s weird how much everyone’s opinions differ though! Haha.

Based on your profile, your entire list of colleges are matches/low reaches. Find some higher reaches! Go for Stanford etc. An extra few applications might let you get into one of the best schools in the world. Good luck!

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1613118-chances-for-brown-u-of-rochester-amherst-and-u-of-michigan-ann-arbor.html#latest</a></p>

I think you got in to all the UCs, USC, and Northwestern, I don’t know much about the others. You should really condense you list to about 8, for instance UCLA is near a city while UCD is in a more rural area, they are very different so I would only apply to colleges you know you would enjoy. I made the same mistake and I can already think of 2 universities I would cut out of my list and I only applied to 8. Also I really like how your only A- was in PE, that gave me a little laugh.

These are all very good matches!! As far as your school not offering honors courses: I know NYU likes to see an IB Diploma (based on the info session given at my school which does offer IB), but really try to match how well you could do in your school, which is nice. You’re super well rounded and very impressive with your activities, dude! I suspect colleges will be majorly impressed with taking community college classes for fun :)

Thanks guys! Any criticisms? Very much appreciated.

Why are you applying to Claremont Mckenna if you want to major in biology?

Claremont McKenna actually offers a great biology program. Plus, I can take classes at other colleges in the consortium. I want a different environment than Harvey Mudd, but can still take the classes! Best of both worlds, basically :)
