What are my chances of a good college?

I'm a sophomore in high school and I really didn't try my hardest in school and ended up with a 2.9 cumulative unweighted freshman year. I didn't understand anything beginning of this year too but I got tutors and am working hard but it's too late to get up at this point. ( I have like a 2.5 unweighted) I am taking Spanish 3, math analysis, audition choir, world history, world lit, chemistry honors ( the class that's being down my grade). As for extracurriculars I'm the president of a music club, in key club, volunteer frequently, play the tabla and sing and I have certificates for both because I take exams each year for them. I play the piano and guitar as well and perform frequently, I play field hockey and gymnastics.
Do I still have a chance at any good colleges such as a uc? If so which ones? And what can I do to improve my chances here on out?

If you live in California, you still have a shot. Are you a URM or disadvantaged in any way?

Yeah I live in California.

And no I’m not disabled in any way.

Well, you’ll need at least a 3.0 for your UC GPA. On the bright side, they don’t count freshman year, so that year will not affect your UC GPA.

Since your in Cali, it’ll be a bit easier for you to get in, from what I’ve heard. Are you a URM?

I’m an Asian American (I’m indian) with a little Fiji (aka pacific islander, but only like 10%…)

Hi there!

You can still get into solid colleges provided that you work hard and get your grades up! You’ll have to do really well the rest of your high school career, though-- you don’t have much wiggle room left.

As mentioned above, UC’s don’t count your freshman year, just your sophomore and junior years. Try to get good grades from now on and make sure you take all the required A-G courses for admission. Also, doing well on your SAT’s would also be a boost seeing as several of the UC schools still don’t use holistic admissions and focus on stats (I forget which ones, but they use a point system).

You’d probably be fine getting into UC Merced and several/most of the CSU’s if you get your UC GPA to be above the minimum 3.0. Maybe Santa Cruz, maybe Riverside depending on how things go. What are your grades like right now?

Good luck!

Is there no way for me to get into one of the higher ucs, just wondering. You know, if I show that I turn my grades around and have stronger ecs and high sat/act scores?

If by higher UCs, you mean Berkeley and LA, probably not, primarily because of how competitive those schools are. That being said, they do have holistic admissions, which could be in your favor. Regardless, could be a nice essay topic.
