What are my chances of admission to NYU?

Hey, all! Just wondering what my chances of admission would be to NYU or if I'm on the right track. I would intend to major in journalism + something else since you have to double major for journalism. Thanks in advance!

White, female, senior at a high school in MD!

4.0 UW GPA, about 4.6 W (probably higher since I took several APs last yr & haven't checked since beginning of last yr)

30 ACT, 2020 SAT (I would probably send ACT)

Leadership: President of forensics & debate club, editor-in-chief of yearbook, probably president of my school's chapter of Quill & Scroll Int'l Honorary Society next year, probably editor-in-chief or other high leadership position of school paper next yr

ECs: NHS, Science NHS, Math NHS, Quill & Scroll Int'l Honorary Society, Journalism Club, Junior Exec Board, Senior Exec Board, newspaper, yearbook, ran for county Student Member of the B.O.E. but lost, participated in Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Pageant (probably won't put all these on application though)

Lots of community service, was "big sister" to girl who lived in public housing in single-parent household, also tutored in said public housing community

Have/had 2 part-time jobs

APs I will graduate with: US history, English Language & Composition (4 on test), Calculus A/B (4 on test), Literature, and Environmental Science

Senior year course load: AP Lit, AP Environ. Science, French IV, Internship, Journalism III and IV, Publications IV and V.

I've won regional awards for my photography/writing and was published in an international magazine (a photograph I took was published)

Thanks again, everyone! If I left anything out just let me know.

I’d try to improve the SAT/ACT score just a tad bit more, but seems like you’re solid with all other aspects of your application.

Not that you need to know right now, but do you know what you plan on double majoring with journalism?

Yeah, I think I’m going to retake the ACT in the fall to see if I can improve it a little further. It’s the math portion that brings me down, unfortunately. All my other sections are in the mid 30s, but my math score is always in the 20s. Hopefully if I work on it I can improve though!

According to College Board, the ACT score middle 50% range is 28 to 32, so at least I’m in the middle as is.

And I was thinking maybe music, since I want to be an entertainment/music journalist and I’ve been playing the piano and guitar since third grade. But I haven’t even come close to deciding yet!

I actually never took the ACT (only the SAT; maybe in retrospect I should have tried it since a lot of people seem to fare better on it than the SAT, but oh well) so I don’t understand how the score breakdown works, but seems like you have a good idea as to improving it!

I think if you want to do music you could consider Steinhardt’s MCC. It’s very flexible and I think a couple of my friends in journalism are doing that.

Good luck! I wish I was as proactive as you when I was in high school haha

Thanks, I’ll definitely take a look at it!

And yeah I’ve been thinking about college for a long time since I have an older brother and tagged along on a slew of college visits since freshman year haha. But thanks again!
