What do you guys think my chances are (be honest plz)
Location : Pasadena City College, Los Angeles
Ethnicity: Latino
First generation American and first college student in my family
GPA: 3.65, took 16 units a semester (hopefully 3.7 after winter session) currently have 56 units and will have 60 by the time I transfer
Will have completed all Ge’s and major prerequisites by the time I transfer
Majoring in international relations (Dornsife) Minoring in Russian
Extracurriculars/ other stuff
In Pathways program that participates in on campus volunteer work
Awarded stipend by the NSA to complete a Russian immersion program at the California State University of Northridge last summer
Volunteer wrestling coach at my local high school
Will intern in DC this summer for International affairs and attend classes at George Washington University
Work:
Restaurant manager all year round averaged 20-30 hours a week
Summer property management of private USC student housing
Local Little League management
Your GPA is just ever so slightly below the average admitted GPA, but you’ve got some rather interesting ECs. USC doesn’t tend to care much about EC’s for transfers, but yours are quite a bit different than the typical ones I see. Also, EC’s likely only come into play with borderline applicants (like yourself). If you’ll have 60 units done, that means you were going to school full-time and that’s definitely an important factor. Some people get rejected for not having two years of full-time attendance. If you can raise your GPA a little as planned, that would help. Either way, your chances are solid if you’ve completed all the possible GEs/prep (especially math/writing).
TLDR; your chances are solid, but there’s rarely a “sure thing” in this life. Do you have backups just in case? Or are willing to do another year at CC and try again if you don’t? (that’s what I had to do when all of my backups fell through the first time I applied to USC). Good luck I didn’t see nearly enough Latinos during my time at USC
