What are my chances of being accepted?

For all of this semester I've been sending emails to the Howard University admissions office, I haven't recieved any replies. I tried calling 3 times, and every time I've been put on a 30min.+ hold.
So I decided to come on her and see if anyone could give me a good, accuate answer. This is the email I sent to them:

Hi,

My name is ______ ______, I'm a sophomore in High School who lives in Iowa. I have a few questions about my chances of being accepted into Howard. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
The reason I'm emailing you so early in my High School career is because of my Freshman year grades. They were really bad, and I wish I had done better. My father died last year, and I guess I just didn't have much motivation. My overall GPA freshman year was a 1.0 (yes, really bad). I had to retake Algebra 1, and 9th grade English this year. First semester this year, my GPA was a 2.6. Now, second semester, my GPA is a 3.0. I'm trying to get it up.
Next year, I plan to take a few AP courses so my GPA will be weighted. My goal GPA for my Jr. and Sr. years is a 4.0 (Hopefully higher with the AP classes). But, because of my Freshman year grades, the most I can graduate with is a 3.0 GPA (unweighted).
As far as extra curricular activities, I did nothing my freshman year (except an after school job and modeling if they count). But this year I'm on the Track Team, I ran Cross Country, NAACP Youth Council, Mock Trial (attorney), Show Choir, American Cancer Society - Treasurer, Character Counts, Key Club, Environmental Club, Literary Magazine, and I volunteer at all of the local Special Olympic events. This summer I'll be volunteering at Blank Park Zoo and (if given enough scholarship money) attending The Academy of Law and Leadership, which is a 10 day Mock Trial/Debate program that helps high school students prepare for Law School. I plan to stay involved Jr. and Sr. year also.
I'm a sophomore, so I haven't taken the ACT or SAT but I always do exceedingly well on the ITBS/ITED's so hopefully I'll do well on those. I hope to either study Psychology, Sociology, or World History with a French minor. Would it be possible for me to study all three (I really want to)? Or would the course load be too heavy considering my Freshman GPA? Would it increase my chances of being rejected?
What do you think my chances of being accepted into Howard are? I know Howard is a very prestigious University, the best of all Historically Black Universities ... I REALLY want to go. I don't want to miss out on the experience, I know it's like no other.
What do you think my chances are? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

So if you guys could help me that would be great. Thanks!

Umm.. I'm new. How long does it usually take for people to reply?

Sometimes you'll get replies and sometimes you won't (it's nothing against you--it just depends on what you're asking) and sometimes you will, but it takes a few days. I would love to give you an answer, but I know next to nothing about Howard University. Some posters may not have replied because generally chance threads are given more of a response once you have taken the SAT or ACT and are almost done or done with junior year--this isn't a requirement, but it's a lot easier to predict how you'll do once you have more of high school completed.

If the admissions office is not being helpful in terms of replying to phone calls/email, I would recommend waiting until the winter/spring of your junior year, and then expressing interest again and asking for more information about Howard. That's when most colleges really start reaching out to high school students.

Colleges will look on you more favorably given that you are experiencing an upward trend in your grades. The fact that you are going to take AP classes is also a good thing because it shows you are challenging yourself. Your guidance councelor should make sure to mention the difficulties you were facing freshman year--colleges will also be more understanding if they know you were having personal difficulties--it's really difficult to keep up with school when you're grieving for someone--and weren't just slacking off because you felt like it.

If you plan to take the SAT, I recommend taking the PSAT this fall if you have the opportunity. It helps to show your strengths and weaknesses and what you need to work on to do well on the SAT. It also helps you get used to the format and time constraits of the SAT. Also, PSAT scores usually predict the general range your scores will fall in--if they are around or above Howard's middle 50%, then you're in good shape.

For now, I would recommend focusing on your schoolwork, your friends and family, and your activities (looks like you've got a great set of them!). Just do your best and don't worry too much about getting in or not getting in to college.

As a junior now, I know what I wanted in a college changed somewhat from even just a year ago. Keep exploring schools--you might find other schools you like as much or more than Howard.

Good luck!

it'd help if u break it down to bullet pts.
