Hello. I am a current High school senior and I wanted to know my chances of being admitted into UT’s McCombs business school.
I am 38 in a school of 244, I know that puts me in the top 15% and that UT automatically admits the top 7%, so I’m worried. I have taken mostly honors classes and I’ve taken 4 AP classes my whole high school career. I am an all A student and my SAT score was 1220, but I’m aiming for a 1400. I have have been in NHS my junior and senior year, I am the editor of my high school newspaper, I am a photographer for the yearbook, I am involved in a Hispanic club and was involved in a German club. I also tutored students who didn’t speak English in Algebra. I am also doing HOSA and Skills USA this year. I have a weekend job as well. How good are my chances of getting accepted?
Chances are slim. You’ll probably get into the university, but McCombs is ridiculously selective. Most business students are selected out of high school. If you don’t get in as a freshman, it’s near impossible to get in from the outside. Be sure you have a good few backups and safety schools.
Here’s another idea, though. Texas A&M has a top business program, but the selection process is much different over there. It’s first come first serve. If you apply early, you have a far better chance of getting in.
OP won’t qualify as an auto admit nor an academic admit to Texas A&M, but will need later holistic review. Unfortunately the Mays slots are often filled before then.
Keep in mind that you’re in college to obtain marketable job skills. The major is more important than the school you go to. If you don’t get into McCombs or Mays, there are a ton of great universities in Texas that can serve the same purpose with plenty of job prospects.
