What are my chances of being admitted to Yale (or any Ivy League) as a transfer student?

I’m currently a high school senior and I did not apply to Yale this year, but I’m already considering applying as a transfer student after a year of college. I know that applying as a transfer is even more competitive than as a freshman, but I already applied to Brown and Cornell this year and couldn’t afford more schools.

My high school GPA is 3.9 and I’ve taken a fairly rigorous course load all 4 years (at least one AP/honors class every year, and three per year for junior and senior years).

My highest SAT score is 2160.

I have a fair amount of extracurriculars: Speech and Debate, volunteering at various organizations, Feminism Club, National Honor Society, and I plan on doing more in college as well.

I plan on doing well in my first year of college (keeping up a 3.8-4.0 GPA with rigorous classes); I’m very committed to school and don’t think this will be beyond my capabilities.

I know the odds are slim to begin with, but how good do you think my chances are of being able to transfer to Yale, or any ivy league that accepts transfers for that matter?

I think you would have a fair shot, but don’t be so set on trasferring before you even get into college! I know many people that intended to transfer, but ended up loving their first school.

However, HYPSM would certainly be a stretch. You would probably have a better chance at UPenn/Dartmouth/Columbia.

Best of luck!

Transferring to Yale is extremely difficult. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but much if this is tethered to their very low attrition rate–approximately just a tad over 1%. Further, the college system also makes for an unusual transition. Best of luck, but statistically it’s almost below 5% in acceptance of transfers …

With almost 98% graduation rates, they don’t need transfers. Maybe Cornell, not any others.

I know Princeton does not accept transfers, but I don’t know about the others. Best of luck wherever you end up!
