Thank you for all your help this is a big dream of mine.

If your SAT is a 1040 out of 1600, it is too low for West Point. Practice the test a lot and retake. The academies don’t care how many times you take the SAT.

Look, I’ll try to be as precise as possible here.

*Your GPA is really good for USMA. Most of the applicants have around a weighted GPA of 3.8 and 3.9–so you’re set on that. If you took the most challenging courses at your school, you shouldn’t worry about anything.

*You got a total of 1500/2400 on the SAT, correct? If so, I’m curious of what you got on EACH of the sections. You need around a 650 on each section to be a strong, qualified applicant with excellent chances for admissions. I got into USMA with a 1920 (M: 680; R: 630; W: 610) and I got in. In addition, a friend of mine got accepted with a composite ACT score of 28, you might want to check that test out, too.

*Your extracurricular activities and leadership skills seem to be right on track. Make sure, however, that when you apply for the Congressional Nomination within your district, to make a typed resume with all of these activities. Make sure to include a short description for each activity, and the awards received for any. Make sure to also have written proof of these activities, like a diploma or a commemoration letter signed by an authority.

As for now, if I were the admissions guy at USMA, I would probably deny your application due to your poor SAT scores. Don’t feel discouraged, however. I got a 1410/2400 on my first SAT, a 1500/2400 on my second, and a 1920/2400 on my third. I completely understand your frustration–I was in your shoes last year. What you need to do is to grab the SAT prep books and start practicing. Practice, practice, read and practice, and then practice some more. You have all this remaining year to start, so if you have any questions in Math or Writing, for example, it’s time because you have the teachers there at your school. Summer is for intense SAT practice, but you will not have the teachers to help you out, unless you get some kind of tutor.

Also, you can post further questions on the USMA sub forum
