What are my chances of getting accepted to Florida State?

I find out on the 14th and the wait is killing me. The thing I'm worried about is that in middle school I took highschool courses that went into my GPA, and that's when my parents got divorced so I got straight Cs... If they just look at my high school GPA its about a 3.7; however, if they count middle school too its about 3.4.

My SAT I score is 1270, my cumilative ACT is 27. I go to a really good Florida private high school and I'm not in any sports but I'm really strong in art and writing and I have a toooon of community service..

no offense, but with a 3.7 how'd you get a 1270?

... thanks for your help?

i dont know anywthing about FSU

Generally, decent; based on the SAT score 1270/1600. Assuming you have the required course work, you're in the upper part of the the middle 50% range of SAT scores of accepted students. If you're from out-of-state, I'd say you're still in good shape, again assuming the course work is solid...

Once you're accepted (good luck! :)) immediately go to the fsu housing website and apply for housing. Get the all-important housing priority number. Don't wait a second.

Also read up on the news at Florida State here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=185

oooooooo wow, i thought you meant you had a 1270 out of 2400...my bad haha

I think you have a good chance at FSU.

BTW, did you get Bright Futures?

Haha okay I forgive you then charkins...

I know I can get a 75% Bright Futures scholarship, and I will have 100% if they reweigh my GPA without the middle school grades... don't know how that will work out though...

Last I checked the state of Florida gives a 100% Bright Futures for a 1270/1600 and above. The score won't get you into the Honors Program at FSU or into an Honors dorm, but does makes you competitive for admission, if the other elements are present.

I'd suggest taking the SAT again and see if you can improve the score. If you score somewhere over 1300/1600 then other good things are possible.

you're definitely in.. as long as you have some extracurriculars and whatnot

I think you're in good shape.

You should apply to University of Florida.

You are definitely in at FSU.

^strong in art and writing...community service...FSU's a better choice.

apply to uf like that kid said... i would even if FSU had a better field for ur study just becuz UF kills fsu in all aspects of academia and sports. PEACE

yeah you should apply to UF.. although it would be a reach

"^strong in art and writing...community service...FSU's a better choice."
UF is a better all around school. Even if the original poster has decides to initially go into arts or writing, they may end up changing their mind. UF is just has a better academic reputation. I think FSU is a good school that's academics are unfortunately overshadowed by its party reputation.

^Not really. Let's separate some fact from fiction. UF has some fine programs and at the moment they are rated higher than Florida State in the general undergraduate area - if you believe the USNews rankings, which many academics dispute as glossing over myriad facts. FSU has it's share of those rankings as well, and in fact in areas is substantially stronger than UF. These schools have different programs to offer, and historically this has been the case. FSU has long been the Arts and Sciences university in Florida, while UF is and has been basically an "ag" school emphasizing certain technical subjects the metrics of which are currently rewarded by some rating services.

The poster is interested in areas that are Florida State's historic strengths and unless she/he suddenly decides to study engineering, selecting UF over FSU would be an error. These recent nice rankings, which is obviously the cause for this burst of amazingly arrogant statements by UF fans, has not gone unnoticed by the administration at Florida State. Suffice to say the university is not resting on it's laurels and is working extremely hard to restore the balance in public perception.

About this party reputation...again, if you believe the rankings, UF is a substantially more active "party" school than Florida State. The administration has cracked down on this aspect as well.

give it up parent2noles. UF IS BETTER than FSU. In all aspects except maybe a program FSU has. For example, FSU has a really good music program. Its world renowned. BUT, why the hell would someone choose the music program unless he/she was wanting to become a artist. If I were an music artist, I would rather go to UF over FSU even though FSU has a better program. Because: UF is better in academia (no argueing this parent2noles because when I say this it means the majority of UFdepartments are better). UF sports rule. National champions in basketball 2006, national champions in football 2007, Rex grossman former Gator going to the superbowl (quarterback for Bears). I was in the streets the day we won... It was UNREAL. Surrealistic because UF seemed like its own small nation that night. So I ask you, sure FSU might have a few tweeks and little things that are better. But why the hell would FSU EVER come back and beat UF in the rankings? Until you guys get a department of time travel, this will be highly unlikely. PEACE

ownage.......

"Rex grossman former Gator going to the superbowl (quarterback for Bears)"

nothing to be proud about :-) jk...kinda...
