What are my chances of getting accepted to Stanford?

I'm currently a junior and I've had a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. I'm number one in my class, class president for the last two years, STUCO, NHS, FCA, JV Golf, wrestled freshman year, marching band, jazz band, winter drumline, percussion club, founder of Hipster Hangout Club (haha), Eagle Scout, rock band outside of school. I currently do not have much volunteer work but this summer I'm hoping I can do some.

The first time I took the ACT I got a 26 but I've been practicing and I think I can get it up to 31 when I take it in a couple weeks (I'm striving for a 33 eventually).

I'm also planning on using Stanford's Early Action program.

Classes I'm taking / Going to take:
AP Bio
AP Lit
AP Physics
College Psych
College Comp
Gifted Exploration
Calc

So if I can get my ACT score up into the 30's (I'm not really planning on taking the SAT), do you think I've got a shot?

What’s your race?

I’m white.

Not with a 30/31 act.

Yeah, you’re going to want to focus on those tests. Just find a passion with your ECs, and I’m sure you’ll have a mediocre chance (what do you expect?) of getting in. Good luck! You sound like a cool dude, though–love the hipster club.

If you get a 33+ ACT then you have a chance. But can’t say much more than that; Stanford is extremely competitive. The valedictorian of my class this year, also white, who got into Harvard and Brown got rejected at Stanford.

I think you should aim towards another school… it would be highly unlikely for you to get accepted.

hang on, nobody asked what state he’s from. If you’re not in CA then your chances are less than 5%, if you’re from CA then I’d say you would have a 30% chance with ACT at 33+. (part of stanford’s charter requires that a certain % (I think it’s either 66% or 75%) of students be from CA)
also if you already took any APs, please list the scores on them. as well as what other courses you’ve taken as electives outside of APs and what your intended major is. demonstrating interest can be a big + in your favor.
chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1313605-chance-me-computer-science-schools-will-chance-back.html

I’m from Missouri so I guess my chances are pretty slim. I’m currently in the only AP classes I’ve had so far, so I haven’t taken any tests yet. Most of my electives have been musical ones (marching band, concert band, jazz band) which is a huge passion of mine. I’ve also taken/going to take some computer electives. I want to major in either mechanical or electrical engineering.

Now that I think about, my class load probably isn’t that impressive…

You chances are way, way slim. There are still other great school however.

zorn96, you’re way off–the % of students from CA at Stanford is about 40%. And it’s not easier to get in to Stanford from CA, because most of the brightest students thoughout the entire state of CA apply there every year. The competition for the CA spots is fierce, just as it is for all the other spots.

I have to second that the post about Stanford requiring a certain amount of students from California. Waaay off. I don’t think it’s even any easier to get in from California, it’s just that more kids from California are interested in attending/want to stay near their roots. Most schools, including Ivy Leagues, have slightly more students from their area. I’ll admit that 40% is pretty high, but California is a massive, populous state. Being from Missouri won’t hurt at all.

That said, OP I doubt you’ll get in. But I agree that you sound like a pretty cool kid lulz. Apply as a reach, sure. It’s not impossible, but nothing stands out and I would be surprised if you did get in. If you get a 34+ on the ACT I think that would definitely help though.
