What are my chances of getting accepted?

Just be honest, I've been worried about not getting accepted into UW and need insight.

I'm a Senior in Washington of an Asian heritage.
SAT- 1490 (Retaking)
GPA- 3.6
I haven't taken any AP or Honers classes until 12th Grade, taking AP Computer Science, AP Gov and Algebra 2 Honors.

I haven't joined any clubs, but I volunteer normally. I probably got around 38 hours 9-10th Grade, then volunteered like crazy for 100+ hours the summer of 11th Grade at Volunteers of America.

I plan on studying Computer science.

I regret I couldn't make it to Pre-Calc, or didn't take more advanced classes.
I honestly have no confidence right now. Do I have a chance of getting accepted?

Lets see…

Can you specify the kind of Asian you are? Not all Asians are minorities (like Chinese, Korean, etc.) Though that may help you somewhat, it’s not going to guarantee you of getting in.

SAT - A bit below average, but still an okay score I guess…
GPA - About 0.1 off the average, but still pretty decent
No AP or Honors… well, that isn’t going to look that great. They would especially like the core classes (math, English, social studies, and science). Yeah… so you don’t really have a nice looking choice of classes, if you haven’t taken any AP or honors core classes. I mean Algebra 2 Honors is okay… but typically seniors end their year in Pre-Calc or Calculus.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in a club or not, just some way to see you’re active outside of school at something at least. You got all those volunteers which is nice (and hopefully you enjoyed those time, or at least learned from them).

I would say… you would have a 50% chance of getting in at least. All it comes down to you gaining some more points is in the personal essay. As long as you got something to say, something meaningful, somehow make us think you’re the kind of person who can make an impact on others (even in a small group or such), they want to see that you are capable of making a difference. Tell us about who you are personally, your character, how all those volunteer hours made an impact on your character.

I’m Vietnamese. Probably not the best, but can’t help that.
I know, huge mistake on my part for not taking more honors. How many honors/AP is normal for acceptance?
Would it help if I joined another Honors class this year?

Thanks, I’ll work hard on making the essay better now.

You need a very strong and convincing essay. I would focus on that and ask lots of people to read it.

I’m not sure how many honors or AP is normal. Though you should have been taking some throughout your entire school year. It would help if you did take an honors (but mostly an AP class), and pass it as well.

Yeah, you’ll need a strong and convincing essay, so that we don’t overall look at you as a student who didn’t try hard enough in school, but someone who just wants to make a difference and have had a major impact on others.
