Hi guys!
I really like the University of Pittsburgh and it’s certainly one of my top choices. However, I am a little baffled by the stats compared to the acceptance rate of the school. Pretty much every sight online (CC, PrepScholar, Niche, etc) has stated that the average GPA for admitted students is ~4.1 and the middle range for ACT is ~27-32. The acceptance rate for the school is 60%, though. I don’t understand how a school could have such a (relatively) high acceptance rate yet such competitive stats.
Anyways, could anyone clear some of the confusion outlined above and chance me?
basic stats: w-4.0, uw-3.8, lots of APs/Honors. Decent amount of extracurriculars
I think you have a really great chance! They like to see interest, so if it is a top school make sure you visit it. Also be sure to turn in your application now if you haven’t yet, they give scholarships on a rolling basis so the longer you wait, the less likely you receive one. Good luck!
A chart shown during my visit made it appear that bio has a much lower ACT average than their more competitive majors like engineering or nursing. Their average was closer to 27-29, I believe. You should have a good chance based on your basic stats!
