Hey guys! I'm a sophomore at a hell hole called Stuyvesant High School in New York City and I want to go to Columbia University. I know its impossible to get in and its really competitive and **** so I'm not one of those confident retards. My transcript contains nothing below a "90" and grades usually withing the mid to high-90's...I think on a 4 scale my GPA is a 3.9 (I could be wrong). I don't have too many extracurricular activities except for:
1)Volunteering at my shcool's A.P. Chemistry Lab (I'm extremely devoted to this)
2)I tutored a few dumbasses for free
3)I volunteered to campaign at an election
4)I'm a member of a few clubs but just a member, that's all
I took an AP course last year and I've taken 3 math electives. I'm pretty sure I'll do well on the SAT because my *-hole of a school's average is 1400 (out of 1600) and I'm a much better student than the average bastard. I've taken an AP Exam in world History which I got a 4 on and I plan to take AP exams in the future and SAT II's as well. My question is...where do I stand as of now and what the * do I have to do to get my south asian brown ass into Columbia? Thanks everyone! :)

hmm. I dont think that there is enough information here for me to even guess what might happen as far as your chances are concerned. What I can guess, however, is probably the fact that the language you used here is not something most colleges look for. Honestly, why did you have to be so critical of your school and peers? I hate my school and many people in it disgust me, but i am not going to say everything that comes to my mind out loud.(especially when it has nothing to do with “chances of getting in to Columbia” title of your thread)

In any case, I dont think that your school’s SAT average will make any difference as long as you do a good job on yours. Im sure there are some people at Columbia that come from “xxxxx-hole” schools similar to the ones you are in. There are many people who you might consider “average b****rds” and be able to get in. One does not know exactly how the admission system works 100 %. What we all know, however, is that even though this forum might not sound like a big deal, you should always look out for the language you use. I am not trying to let you down or be mean. I am just saying that sometimes we get used to saying bad things in a way that we dont even realize its that bad.

First…wash out that mouth mister (lol). Seriously though, that was a bit painful to read.

Anyway, onto the matter at hand. It’s really difficult to judge your chances at this point, especially with you being a sophomore and everything. That said, I would advise you to take up a few more extra curriculars (which seem interesting to you), continue your volunteering and keep up your grades. Based on your school’s SAT average and what you said, there really isn’t any reason why you shouldn’t do very well on it and be competitive for Columbia when you become a senior. That’s just my opinion though.

I am not questioning your negative experience at Stuy, but I’m sure you’re aware that most consider Stuy one of the best high schools in the country. Every year, a handful (or more) of Stuy seniors are admitted to Columbia. I suspect your guidance office has built a substantial database of what works and what doesn’t for admission to Columbia. Have you checked with them?

If you are a complete dick like your post makes you seem to be, 0%.

■■■■■! I’m sorry if that post was “dickish” but I’m not a complete dick. I’m sorry I sounded so gay.

another thing to avoid if you want to get into columbia is to stop using “gay” as a synonym for “idiotic”

^ Yes. You’ll need to stop using “gay” for “stupid”. It’s insulting and shows immaturity.

But I don’t mean to be an ass-hole, but that’s one of my pet peeves.

Anyways, I would say, like everyone else, provide more stats, work on your attitude (sorry, but true), and stop swearing?

I like your style kid. Just don’t write like that in your essay.

BTW, I’d have gladly traded you a spot in my underfunded public school for a chance to go to Stuyvesant. You don’t know sheetholes.

Why would you presume that this is a prerequisite?

As a Regis alum, I agree with your well-put sentiments: Stuy is an overrated hellhole.

Regardless, it has exceptionally strong representation at Columbia University.
Keep your rank as high as possible, and score well on your SAT Is and Subject Tests, and you should be competitive for admission.

I’m also of the opinion that respect for your fellow man is not a prerequisite for admission to our nation’s top universities. You can disregard that advice.

haha your style of writing is awesome. Keep it up!
