Schedule interviews! And learn what you can from the websites first.
As for the app, make sure your personality comes through and that you convey how you want to participate in the community.
Getting FA as an international student can be tricky, so before you get too far down the road, clarify whether the school will be able to meet your need.
Considering your soccer background and coming from the best school in jamaica I think you could get into the George School. The only thing I am questioning is if you will get enough financial aid?
Not really honestly, I just talked about family in mine. That’s something really looked highly at when applying to Hill, is how you will fit into the community.
See, I come from a third world country so there isn’t a lot of students like me , so soccer for instance my goal is to go pro and my grades for instance are excellent down here but over in the USA they might be average for system that you have, resulting in that I’m a little bit discouraged in a sense , so the I don’t think I’ll get much FA , and I’m hoping for full fa
They look at every student though a lens of what opportunities have been available. If you were a rich kid from the NE, you would be evaluated much differently. Don’t be discouraged by your background!
This thread is in the Prep School Admissions section of college confidential, so it is entirely appropriate.
@madman1 , you sound like an interesting person and I wish you luck. 1) Learn as much as you can about schools before interviewing. Make sure that you can easily express why you are applying to each school. But during the interview, try to relax - it’s a conversation, not an inquisition. 2) proofread, proofread, proofread your essays. And don’t forget to proofread the rest of the application.
Thanks🙂,
I’m the first person in my family to take this academic route so it’s a trial and error with high expectations…
My essays though when writing I’ve always looked at it as the “graded” perspective but in my personal statement is it ok to include stuff I’ve achieved in the sixth grade?
Since you’re applying as a repeat 10th grader, your 6th grade accomplishments should be given very little weight or focus. If it is truly something pivotal, or illustrates the kind of person you are, then perhaps it’s worthy of inclusion. However, most can find more recent accomplishments that can do the same thing.
Your essays are a chance for you to show just how special you are. Remember that.
