What are my Chances of Getting in? True Feed back!

I am a junior, and I will be applying for early decision to all of my top choices this upcoming fall.

Schedule

IB Psychology I: A
IB Theory of Knowledge I: A
IB Math Studies: C
IB Biology I: A
IB World Literature: A
IB Spanish I: B
IB European History: A

Accomplishments
200 Service Hours
2 years of Tennis
2 years of Soccer
Debate Team for 3 years

Weighed GPA: 4.6
Unweighted GPA: 3.5

I think you have a great chance if getting in. You did make a C, but your GPA is very impressive, so I think that should be dismissed–especially with all IB classes.

What state are you in?

What are your SAT or ACT scores?

You can’t apply early decision to more than one school…

yea, u can’t apply early decision to more than one school…
you can apply early Action to more than one school tho…

either way, if u are in-state for UNC, I would say u have a definite shot…but i need more info than just the stats u listed. what u described is a typical applicant to top-tier colleges…granted ur taking all IB’s so thats good, but about ur extracurriculars…can u elaborate? and class rank also if available

Class Rank: 40
SAT: 1900
ACT: N/A

If you are OOS that SAT is far too low for admission to UNC or (Brown or Dartmouth) unless you are a URM or have some very unusual circumstances.

I am a URM - and if I’m not good enough for Chapel Hill - what are your suggestions?

I think that SAT is still too low for most Ivys even if you are URM. Try retaking them, and definitely try the ACT; I personally scored 160 pts. higher on it when converted.

You don’t have to go for the big-name schools, either. There are plenty out there that offer a great education that you’d have a decent shot at. I’d look into places like Boston College, BU, NYU, Davidson, etc; those schools also take a close look at personal circumstances, so that might be beneficial to you if you have something there that could help. Let me know if you need any other ideas!

VC-

Chapel Hill is not an Ivy, but those suggestions for other colleges should definitely match BrownorDartmouth.

Brown-

If you raise your SAT score (since you’re OOS) maybe 100+ points, I think you could have a shot.

Hi, I got in oos… which was surprising because the essays I wrote didn’t seem very good at all. My main essay was about visiting NC on a ski/snowboard trip during winter break, and at the end I said, “And North Carolina wasn’t too terrible either.”
… which pretty much sums up the odd sense of humor I have, or stupidity for actually saying that.

My advice for writing the essays is to not be afraid of being a bit different than every other applicant.

My friend got into UNC-Chapel Hill with similar stats: all IB courses, URM, top of the class (ranked top 10), OOS, BUT had an overall SAT score of 1780. I think you have a good chance if you have awesome recs, essays, and ECs. Not saying every URM of 1700+ will get in, but it isn’t impossible.
