Hi all!
I am a current high school student studying in Singapore. I am part of the lower middle class income bracket and I am considering applying early at Yale. Here is my application information:
SAT Score: 630 English, 690 Math (Both first take), 17 Essay
GPA: My school uses the over 100 scale and my average is 95. I am a consistent honor student ever since 9th grade. I am also taking the most demanding possible course load in school.
Class rank: My school ranks in deciles and I am top 10% in a class of around 500 students.
Extra-curricular activities:
I am the President of my school’s student council and founded a couple of organizations, and I am internationally awarded in debate. I have 5 international debate awards including various continental and national championships, 3 national awards and I am currently in the Singapore National Debate Team. I have emphasized debating in my application as I have been doing it since the 9th grade.
Recs: All from close teachers who wrote about my passion for debating as well as sent out a supplementary rec from my debate coach.
Essay: It was about how debate shaped my identity and moved me to be active politically.
Yale has the number one ranked debate team in the USA.I have explicitly stated interest in participating in Yale’s debate team. I am wondering if my low SAT scores will be compensated by my grades? Thank you for the advice and all the best!
