What are my chances of getting in?

I’ll be a junior this year, & here are my credentials so far. What else could I do to improve my chances? Do you guys think I’ve got a good chance at the moment?

I attend a prestigious college-preparatory all-girls academy (- they accept students based on scores on a high school placement exam)
I was admitted with distinction (top 7%)

Clubs:
Classics Club (I’m Historian) 2 years
EARTH Club 2 years
SUATTeam (technology team, only some are accepted) 1 year
World Affairs Club 1 year
I also was on the Mock Trial team this year, though we didn’t win anything.

I don’t have any awards or such for community service, but I run clothing drives for my parish and volunteer at a nursing home. Do colleges consider that enough, or do they want more than that? I plan on volunteering at a hospital & my library during the school year. I want to go into medicine, so would holding this volunteer position look better than having a job?

I was also accepted into an Honors Seminar class at my school. It’s purpose is to increase PSAT + ACT scores & essay writing. I’ll be doing personal lessons too, but most people who just took this class said their SAT score went up by at least 200.

Thanks! :)

Your credentials look good, but if you really want to go to Brown, you are going to need to improve your SATs by quite a bit more than 200 points. Think closer to 400. Also try for more distinction; you know, something that makes you different from anyone else. Good luck, and don’t stress. You still have two more years of high school.

Is Brown your top choice? Or are you just applying because it is a top school? Brown knows the difference between who wants to attend badly and who wants to go to a top-name school. I would consider choosing one school to really focus on and make sure the school knows you are very interested. Scores are important, but it’s the interest in the school that helps get you noticed. Also, just by looking at your interests and passions, Brown will judge if you have the right personality and motivation to fit into their way of life. So, for example, and not to say this is true, if you are only doing community service to have it under your belt, it won’t cut it. You need to show true passion for things.
If you are truly interested, then good luck! You have some good qualifications already and still a couple years to build them up and find your passions.
