Hello, I've always wanted to study abroad. My country, India, has always been rather weak in education and corruption is rampant. Anyways, what are the tests generally required to get into a college in the US or UK? I understand that I may not get the top colleges but some mid level ones will be fine. Also, what sort of extra-curricular activities are expected? And upto what level? Are academic achievements outside the curriculum valid? And to what degree? I know that I will have to work hard but that isn't a problem. I regularly make the top 2 in my class.
Another thing, scholarships. I come from an upper middle class family, but in US or UK, that's probably lower middle, so we can't afford anything more than around $35,000-40000 for the COMPLETE 2 years(I want to do a post grad). So are any international scholarships available for post grad students??
Thank you very much!

You will need to write the SAT and TOEFL. Unless you want to go to a top private school, most should be <$40,000

What major do you intend to go to college for?

I’ve never heard of TOEFL. Could you elaborate please?
Okay that’s good. Like I said I don’t want the best of the best, a good college will do.

A masters and/or PHD in one of the pure sciences. I’ve almost completely decided on physics(either nano tech or astrophysics or something like that), but I don’t want to shut out my options too fast.

Okay, I did some research on TOEFL. It shouldn’t be problem, my English is pretty good, definitely good for an Indian I think.
