Hi,
I’m a sophomore in high school. Last year as a freshman I took Biology, World History Honors, Avid 1, English 1, dance (PE), Geometry, and Chinese 1. As a sophomore I’m taking Chinese 2, Dance Intermediate (PE), Chemistry, Algebra 2, English 2 Honors, Cybersecurity fundamentals Honors, and AP computer science principles. As a freshman I had a 3.8 gap and I’m looking towards a 4.0 this yr unweighted. As for extracurricular, I’ve made it to a national leveled competition for cyber security, founded a non-profit club at school, and am at board member for another non-profit club at school. My school is considered pretty competitive (Ranked one of the top public schools) and I’m wondering what are my chances I can get into a school like UCLA or USSD.
Furthermore,
-I plan on taking more rigorous course next yr
-I’m thinking about majoring in computer science
-I’m also considering taking dual classes at a local community college and I also have volunteered and been an intern for the public library
You have no test scores, no “UC GPA which only uses 10-11th grades” and just started Sophomore year. Do the things you enjoy, continue doing well in your classes and keep increasing that HS rigor. Consider get some test prep Junior year and try out both the SAT and ACT to see if you do better on one test vs the other.
At the end of Junior year, calculate your UC GPA (capped weighted and fully weighted), post you test scores and your EC’s and then you can be properly chanced.
Don’t worry about it yet. You’re a sophomore, so by the time you begin applying to colleges you may have other favorite schools. At this point, focus on your schoolwork. UC schools are super-competitive. Are you a California resident? Once you take your ACT/SAT, you’ll have a much better sense for your chances to get into a UC school.
Good luck!
Yes, I am a California resident.
