What are my chances of getting into BC

I’m a senior looking to get into BC. My unweighted GPA is a 3.5 and my ACT is a 31. It is important to remember that although my unweighted GPA is low, I have taken a total of 9.5 AP classes in Highschool. This brings my weighted GPA up to a 4.7/4.0 which makes me top 10% of my school. My resume is pretty strong:

  • Rugby Player- I start on a team that was ranked #5 in my state and number 15 in the country
  • Member of 4 Honors societies
  • Initiated my own service project, delivering clothes to kids in Peru
  • Went on a Mission trip to Lourdes, France
  • Sophomore year member of school lacrosse team
  • Member of Pi Kappa Beta (Debate club) (although not on my school’s Debate team, I go to tournaments and judge at tournaments and so on)
  • I’m Hispanic (I know this doesn’t help much for BC)

Uw gpa is low and will still affect you even if your waited gpa is high. Even though you have taken however many APs, BC still wants to see you doing well in them. That’s why it’s recommended to only take AP courses in the subjects you are strong in. All this being said maybe taking 9.5 AP classes wasn’t such a great choice. I would say it’s hard to determine how they will consider you.

@georged19:
“Chance me” threads have always had a terrible reputation. There are endless discussions on CC for why that is so.

I think you got a good example for why that reputation exists.

Mathematically, I don’t know how you can get from a 3.5 uw to a 4.7 w, unless your school offers two bonus points.

Regardless, numbers are average

  • top decile is where you need to be at a minimum (since ~85% of BC matriculants were top decile).
  • 31 is fine, but 32 is better. :slight_smile:

Good luck.

btw: URM counts pretty much in every college which can use race/ethnicity in holistic admissions.

I’d imagine Hispanic helps even more for BC considering it’s known to be a homogenous school.
