What are your SAT/ACT scores? Essays will probably be important for you so make sure to focus on those. Maybe you could get into 1-2 out of Stanford, Penn, Yale, and USC but top UCs are doubtful because they care way more about stats.
I’m sorry but with those SAT and ACT scores your chances at these schools are slim. You should aim for places where your SAT scores are within their boundaries. Typical SAT scores at the schools you mentioned are between high 1400s to 1600s.
When do you plan to apply? This year or next? Are you going to be the first in your family to attend college? Can you take the ACT or SAT again and study really hard for it – use online resources like Khan Academy.
Target UC’s would be Merced, Riverside and Santa Cruz. GPA and test scores are bellow the 25th percentile for most of the UC’s.
I would look at some Cal states such as Long Beach, Fullerton and Sac state.
Agree, your chances to get into any of those schools is very slim. It is time to honestly asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be happy to attend. Perhaps consider some test optional schools. https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional/state You need to expand your horizons and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
@candylover132 What state are you from? What is your unweighted GPA? If you are from California, then do you know your UC GPA? What can you afford to pay for university?
How much and what sort of ACT and SAT preparation did you do? Preparation can help quite a bit and if you can pull your scores up it will help you get into schools and might possibly help with financial aid.
However, most of the schools on your list are unrealistic. You need to look for schools where your GPA and SAT scores are above the 25th percentile, and preferably closer to or above the 50th percentile.
@DadTwoGirls I have done all prep myself and I recently got an email from Davis asking for a letter of rec
so what do you think about that, do I have a good chance of getting into davis?
UCD has asked for a LOR due to an augmented review. The reasons for an augmented review can be as follows:
Evidence of focus on an area of special talent which may have limited a student’s
time to participate in a broader range of activities.
Evidence of character traits that imply a strong likelihood of making a significant
contribution to campus life.
Evidence of significant academic achievement or the potential for academic
achievement at the University in spite of extraordinary or compound
disadvantage or learning difference, or physical disability or other unusual
circumstances.
Evidence of significant improvement in the academic record accompanied by one
or both of the following: reasons for the initial poor performance; and/or sustained
and in-depth participation in educational outreach programs, which demonstrate
the applicant’s commitment to succeed academically within a challenging
environment.
Evidence of relative lack of access to, counseling about, or support to take
college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International
Baccalaureate (IB) classes or required college entrance examinations.
They see something in your application they would like to get more information about to help with their decision.
