essay is excellent, and so are the teacher evaluations.

im also thinking of williams, amherst, caltech and cornell.
so waddya think?

Dartmouth- You have a really good chance because Dartmouth looks heavily at scores and you’re SAT I and II’s are really good. Being Indian would probably help at Dartmouth too. I just noticed that you’re applying ED too. Applying ED will increase your chances even more. I never want to say that anyone is definitely into a college, but I think you have a really really good chance.

Cornell- Same as Dartmouth, the only problem you could have is if you apply to the engineering school which is more difficult to get into.

Amherst/Williams- I put these together because they are very similar schools. Both of these are probably reaches just because they get thousands of applicants that are just like yours. Kids with excellent grades with good extracurricular. What it will come down to here is just getting a person who reads you’re app and finds something that makes you unique to either school. No one is a shoe in at Amherst or Williams.

Middlebury- You’re chances are probably pretty good here too, just to warn you though there are a lot of very preppy rich kids at Middlebury. Its very waspy and I’ve heard kids have had bad experiences there. I’m not trying to dissuade you but at such a small school, If you’re not into partying or don’t fit the mold there, it might be difficult to fit in.

Caltech- I don’t know enough about this school to give an opinion. I heard that its really hard to get into out of state though.

thanks. and im applying to the arts and sciences college at cornell, not the engineering one. so you think that with dartmouth college and cornell i have a pretty good chance?they are both ivies you know…

Whether or not you’re asking for financial aid will be a big influence. If you are full pay, I would expect you to have an excellent shot at getting into one or more of these schools.

Dartmouth is the only of these that is need blind to internationals (maybe Amherst now too), but because of that that get tons of highly qualified applicants from most countries (definitely India) and have their pick of very top students for the few they’ll accept. Intnl apps were up ED this year.

And FYI, you’ll have to watch out for those awful little WASPS at most all top US schools–their forefathers built these schools:)

I see you just joined CC. Welcome. Just so you know, there’s really no difference between the kids at Amherst and Williams and Dartmouth compared to Middlebury (from a socioeconomic and public/private school standpoint), so if the kids at Midd are rich WASY brats, the same is true for the others (actually, that stereotype died with the 80s).

Dartmouth will line up the contenders from India, decide to fund 2 or 3, and select the best of the pool. Good chance they will wait to see all the candidates in the RD round before deciding. I would expect the Indian candidates who are successful will be among the very top students in the country.

you have great stats and ec’s, and not being american will help too. you have a great shot just about anywhere you apply. early decision will help you at Dartmouth too.

Pay close attention, there are many posters on cc, such as this one, who don’t yet have the facts.

MIT has very limited money for internationals, and again, a slew of highly qualified applicants from India. With a great application, you may be one of the few lucky ones, but have great backups.
