What are my chances of getting into Exeter?

Ok, first off I'm caucasian, applying to Exeter for 10th grade, and I got wait listed last year. My app. is pretty much the same but higher test scores and a little different grades (not better or worse). Ok...

Grades (at a private school ranked around 30th in the country)- the only honors class offered is math, which i take
Intro to Physics- A
History- B
Spanish 2- A-
Concert Band- A
Jazz Band- A
Honors Algebra 2- A
English- A

SSAT Scores- im not taking until january and february, but i've taken a few practice tests. My average scores were around..
Math: 800
Verbal: 720
Reading: 700

I don't know what percentile those are cept math which is 99%

Recs- Math, English, and Science are my 3 best classes and all 3 of those teachers are nice and I have A's in all of those so I should get real good recs. My principal rec should be good cuz since it's my 1st year in upper school he's having a meeting with the head of middle school who wrote it last year and apparently she wrote me an amazing rec. Extra Curricular rec should be really good as well.

EC-
-Piano- 7 years, multiple awards for playing and theory

-Trombone- 5 years, 1st chair in both high school bands as a freshman, All-State band and jazz band

-Trumpet- 4 years (just lessons and messing around, nothing in a real band)

-Lacrosse- 5 years, played for the top team of the best club team in my area, looking to get some varsity time this year (school's number 2 in Delaware)

-Run indoor Track (not as serious as lacrosse and probably won't play if I go to Exeter)

-Raised over $8000 in the past 4 years for the MS Society (Multiple Sclerosis) by myself

-Played piano at 2 different fundraisers

-Do some community service for the Ministry of Caring (something like once every couple weeks)

-Student Council freshman representative

-Won two Math Olympiad awards in middle school and got 1st place in a state wide science competition for my event. Also, my 8th grade history research paper got entered in a writing contest (not sure what it was called)

Interview- I had mine with the director of admissions. I thought I did exceptionally well compared to last year. He told me, "You're definitely the type of student that should be at Exeter" and last year I didn't get told anything close to that and got wait listed. He also told my mom how "Articulate and well spoken I am" and i thought that was one of my weak points.

Ok so this whole thing went on really long but anyway... What do you think my chances of getting into Exeter are?

Well, the interview sounds like a plus. If the head of admission says you should be at Exeter, then you probably should be. I think you have a very good chance, however I guess it’s a tossup (as all HADES schools are). Good luck!

thanks and yea they’re always a tossup

anyone…?

My question, how’d u get waitlisted in the first place? YOu should have been accepted
So far, I think everything is pretty good, but SSAT and that B will hurt you.

i got waitlisted cuz my SSAT’s were aweful last year and the director of admissions said last year the applicants test scores were highest in school history. My SSAT scores were like 94 math 75 reading and 65 vocab (percentile wise)

I think your chances are excellent, and it seems to me a big plus that you’ll already have taken physics and a math level which will dovetail with what most of the Preps will have taken. (Many high schools don’t offer physics and higher math to freshmen, and physics in particular can be a good gauge of you ability–I wouldn’t worry at all about a B in that.)

I’m surprised that SSAT scores could have been such a big factor and very surprised you weren’t admitted as a Prep, unless you also were dealing with a substantial financial aid request in a year when the school couldn’t be need blind.

I actually didn’t need any financial aid last year and don’t need any this year so that wouldn’t have effected it. I think it was a combination of my SSATs and I think in my interview I didn’t express how much and why I really wanted to go. This year I think I did that really well though

O yea and Momalot I don’t know if i misread ur comment but I didn’t get a B in physics, I got it in history, I got an A in physics

I’m also applying to Andover now

you have a really good chance :D
