What are my chances of getting into Fordham Unversity?

Hey there,

I am currently a junior in high school and I attend a private Catholic school in Los Angeles.
I slacked off a lot during my first two years in high school.
I got by in freshman year with 3.0 and in sophomore year I got a 3.17.
but I messed up during Summer school (I took it to get ahead)- I got a C in Geometry so now I have a 2.98
for freshman through sophomore year.

I know those are not very good grades, but I am working extremely hard to higher them this year. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and I just finished with my mid terms. I am taking an honors class as well and I have an A in that class.

If I maintain my grades throughout the year and I also keep up my extra curricular activities what are my chances of getting in. If I get good test scores as well.

During my Senior year I also plan to take 3 AP classes.

AP GOV, AP LIT, and AP Calc.

my extra curricular activities include- (what they will look like for my application)

I have run my own toy drive for kids in the foster system for 7 years and I have collected over 8,000 toys and 4,000 dollars.

I graduated from LAPD CADETS

President of the photography club- Sophomore year

President of CLUB IMAGINE (community service club)- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Key Club- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Pax Christi- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR (president senior year)

Warriors 4 Life- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR (president senior year)

Eucharistic Minister at my Parish- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Eucharistic Lector at my Parish-JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Confirmation Leader at my Parish- JUNIOR THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Choir- FRESHMAN THROUGH SENIOR YEAR

Liturgy band - SOPHOMORE YEAR THROUGH SENIOR (Senior year president)

You’re probably going to need straights A’s junior year through first semester of Senior year, but even then you’ll probably need a very good reason to explain the really low GPA first two years. If you can somehow score over a 2000 on the SAT’s, you may a shot. Good luck!

Thank you! I will try my best. As I said, I currently have a 3.8 and I am trying to get a 4.0. :)

Hi - For what it’s worth, your stats sound a lot like my daughter’s stats. She was in the IB programme in her school but didn’t take it seriously freshman or soph year and was on the verge of being asked to leave several times because of poor performance. She had a couple of semesters of below 3.0 (weighted) GPA which is usually the floor requirement for IB in her school. Once her junior year hit, something inside of her sparked and she decided that she should take school seriously. She got straight A’s her junior year and first semester senior year - still, just enough to bring her GPA (weighted) up to about a 3.4. She did fine (not spectacular) on her SATs (1950) and had some ECs, though nothing head-turning. She was wait-listed to Fordham and ultimately accepted. She LOVES it. She loves her classes, loves the city, loves everything about the experience. She is at Lincoln Center and is even enjoying learning to cook in her own suite with her suitemates.

She was rejected from schools ranked “lower” than Fordham and we are all so excited that she is at Fordham. My take-away from this is (1) apply everywhere that interests you and (2) the trajectory of your GPA matters more than the number itself.

Good luck!
