Hi I am a rising senior living in Georgia. I am white, attend a private prep-school, and live about 30 minutes away from Atlanta. I have a 3.6 GPA and I get my first SAT scores back this weekend. I have taken the PSAT 3 times and have improved considerably each time to where my last score was an 1820. My SAT will most likely be higher. I took AP European history this year and most likely made a 5. Next year I'm taking AP Statistics and Ap Goverment. My school only offers about 10 APs so 3 of 10 isn't terrible. I'm in many clubs academic and otherwise, have around 200 hours of community service, and really want to persue a career in engineering. I will be aplying to UGA as well and possibly some smaller schools, but what do you think my chances are? Thank you so much for your help.

Georgia Tech doesn’t give credit for AP Statistics. If you haven’t taken calc yet, I would suggest STRONGLY that you do. While high schools typically don’t allow students to drop an AP course, if you switched from AP Stats to AP Calc or (gulp), added Calc, it would strengthen your chances. Apply early and if you get deferred, you’ll have the opportunity to self-report your first quarter grades. 3.6 is a low gpa by Tech standards. Students with 3.75 gpas were getting waitlisted. Talk with the Georgia Tech counselor who works your county.

Update - I just configured my GPA using Georgia Tech’s scale, and it says I have a 3.7. BTW I’m taking honors Pre-calc next year, and my school is real touchy about allowing students to take AP classes, so I doubt they would let me take AP.
