- I have a 3.75 UW GPA and a 3.9 weighted
- I've taken lots of honors/AP/college level classes over my high school career
- I'm currently taking classes at John Carroll University (as a high school student)
- Lots of EC's - yearbook, locker decorating club (that I started lol), NHS public relations officer, 4 years of varsity lacrosse/soccer, lax captain, and I work two jobs, I volunteer at a nursing home
- I'm an African American female if that plays any part
- Unfortunately, my ACT score is a 25! This is what I'm worried about and I've taken the test 3 times. I'm not applying early decision because I'm not sure if I can afford it. What do you think my chances are of getting into GW and do you think I should submit my score? It's 4 points lower than the average.
With GW going test optional I don’t think it helps to submit a 25. Looking at the GW common data set before going test optional your 25 would be in the bottom quarter of enrolled first years. That’s not good news, but 4% of enrolled first years had an even worse 23 or below; 46% scored 24-29. My impression then is your 25 doesn’t disqualify you from admission, and you would have been in good company if the SAT/ACT were still required. The problem is applications can shoot up when a school goes test optional. GW got lots more applications from girls and admitted 48% of female applicants, but less than 45% of males, so I wonder if the female applicant pool has been generally stronger overall. It’s possible that with the test optional policy applications from boys will increase and their acceptance rate. Again that isn’t good news for you but hopefully you’ll put together the strongest app you can and have good back up choices too. Good luck!!
