What are my chances of getting into Harvard?

Hey everyone,
So it's always been my goal, since I was little, to get into Harvard.
I want to do an undergraduate program in neurobiology, eventually beomce a neuroscientist, blah blah blah.

I don't live in the US. I'm Canadian. I don't know anyone who has gotten into Harvard, applied, or is even thinking about it (other than myself).

Im grade 10. (second year of high school)
I do have 2 more years of high school. I need advice! What should I do? Here are my stats right now:

Grades:
Grade 9: 90% average overall (we dont do GPAs here, so what would that be?). Yes, its bad, but its grade 9, who cares. I got Gold Award.
Grade 10: This year, i have a 91 average right now. But it's mainly so to history, which is a joke (we have the easiest curriculum...it's frustrating). I have a 84 in history, which brings down my average.

Other Academic:
Im doing a Gr 10 Science Module, for a "gifted" credit. i dunno if other places do it, but we have an "enrichment" program for students identified as intellectually gifted. The Module shows that I did extra work, and extended the curriculum on my own time, with little to no help, and i present to other classes, and teach them about what i'm researching. I'm planning on doing more modules.

We don't have AP Classes available at our school, but I'm take the Bio exam anyway. Next year, I'm hoping to do more AP classes...but it might be hard if I want to go for that 98 average which will look better.

Nest semester, I'm living in France for three months. I'm fluent in French, and have been taking French Immersion since I was five.

I went to Queen's University to study molecular bio for a week. (its not much, but i dont know what to include)

Extracurricular:
I've had two acting contracts based out of Toronto. I auditioned to be in an add for Bell, but didn't make it. I attended a seminar with a world-renowned casting director (she discorvered Keanu Reeves).

I have a Blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do.

I'm just beginning to start a charitable organization in my community (and hopefully expand after we start up) encouraging kids to live up to their potential. Basically we promote academic success, and planning for the future.

I've written a novel, and sent off two short stories to be published. I love writing, especially horror. (I'm not published yet). I hope that I can be published soon! Lol.

I havent really done anything that exciting, but I really want some advice, and to know whether I even have a chance in two years to look good enough for Harvard to accept me. Personality wise, I think I'm well mannered, I can be funny, I'm pretty modest, I'm never rude, and I'm very respectful most of the time. I'm shy, but pretty outgoing at the same time. I can be ambitious, but school drains the life out of me.

Please any advice at all would help! Thank you so much!

Anyone with any advice?

you're ECs are impressive. However, as a "neuro-hopeful" I don't see many biology/neurology related activities. Maybe you can participate in some research or shadow a doctor?

Also, try to raise those grades if you can.

Keep up the good work, and don't worry so much. You're only a sophmore. Hang out with some friends.

Thank you for the advice.

I definitely will raise my grades.

In my town, we dont exactly do much research. There aren't many opportunities like that unless i wanted to go to another city, probably Toronto if i was to stay in Canada. I was thinking of doing a "mini-medical" school or something like that, which is the closest I can find. or a summer research program in toronto.

And my grades are low because of hanging out with my friends too much:) (along with hating school)

Try and show off your ECs through your interest in neurobiology and languages.

Try and show that, even though your school does not provide AP classes, that you are still interested in doing whatever it takes to succeed(take AP exams and college courses).

Practice long and hard for your SAT Is, SAT IIs, and ACTs, since ECs variate, but stats/scores do not.

Strong Extra-Curriculars (Varsity Sports would be great)(Winning Science Competitions would be Awesome)

High SAT and SAT IIs
Meaning (2250 SAT) (750+ SAT II)

Community Service (Hospital)

Internship (Hospital)

Leadership Positions are a must.

Good Luck.

PS: Your GPA Has Got to Go Up.

"And my grades are low because of hanging out with my friends too much (along with hating school)"

-well that kind of attitude certainly won't help you...

LOL. As much as hanging out with friends are cool and all, you won't get into {ANY} Ivy with a 90 GPA unless your a super extra-curricular/sports/talent

This is Canada though, 90% is considered a VERY good mark. 80%+ is an A.

Thanks for all the advice.

I realize my GPA needs to go up alot, and my low GPA was just to show that I haven't been trying at school. Yes, 90 is good for my school, but I can do alot better. Im positive my GPA will go up alot next year.

I'm trying with the APs. I'm doing one this year (hard to do more than one since everything is on my free time, and I'm going to France for three months).

What is a Varsity sport? Lol, ive heard of it, but i dont even know what that means.

Is the Queen's thing, e=mc2? I don't know how much you can get out of that because it's more for a fun experience to get a feel of university itself (I went two years ago). A while back Queens wanted to start running summer programs though, and offer uni credits to both college kids and high school kids. Somehow, it got lost in the works.

Apply for the University of Toronto Mentorship Program, they ahve some programs regarding biology and moleucular biology. Or apply via Sick Kids for summer research internships (this one requires money)

Gifted is higher than enriched. Much higher. Generally, the method of teaching should be different but it varies between teachers and schools.

Yeah it was e=mc2, and i knew i wouldnt get much out of that, i just didnt know what else to include.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look itno the University of Toronto metorship. Do you know what time of year and how long?
Thanks again.

Applications for this current year has past. They generally go for juniors and seniors. Applications are online September and applications are due early October. It generally runs from November to May.

Thanks.

It runs from November til May? Like is that how long you're there? Or is that just the timeframe of when they have students? Do you stay there in Toronto?

Academic Enrichment —

This is the link.
You go there maybe once or twce a week, you arrange this with the prof if you're chosen. So from November to May you go a couple hours a week, that's what I'm saying.

You don't stay in Toronto. But. I might advise you on this. Get your extracurriculars and experience re: hospital this summer. If you can demonstrate you have a lot of interst and experience, then I don't see why they wouldn't take you. This is incredibly time consuming EC. I can tell you right now.

get off of cc

youre too young: worry about increasing your grades rather than collegs at this point

come back in a year or so

cant tell w/o SATs

this guy^ is right.
