What are my chances of getting into IMSA (Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy)?

I’m a 7th grader with a dream of getting into an academy called IMSA. I’m in the “gifted” program at my middle school (Eastview Middle School). I am studying for the SATs and have the official 2016 guide. This year my GPA was a horrible 3.89 because I had to get used to middle school first quarter. I am in pre algebra 2 and I’m taking algebra during the summer so I can take geometry in 8th grade. My extracurriculars include track, tennis, basketball, science olympiad, and I’m starting the math team at my school. I also have created various apps using Xcode and have an interest in computer science. I plan to have straight As for the rest of 8th and 9th grade. I do not have any awards in math and science so I’m really worried about that. I’ve been on the honor roll all four quarters. I’ve taken some unofficial, shorter practice SAT apps and have gotten scores from 650-780. I haven’t gotten to taking the official practice test yet. I’m really worried about getting into IMSA and see other kids excelling much better than I am who also want to get in.

Well honestly I have no idea what IMSA is and everyone “plans” to get straight A’s but somehow it doesn’t work out. But maybe you can see this programs website to see what the stats are to get in or call to talk about what seems to be accepted. Your extra curricular are great and honestly their not going to care what you’ve gotten on SAT study tests in seventh grade. High school apps are going to be about essays maybe a test and where you went to school including gpa. See what connections you can make and talk to current students.

I am a current IMSA senior. I can’t tell you your chances of getting in without a proper SAT score but I just assume you score a 690 on all categories. Your GPA is not bad. IMSA applicants gets the occasional B, it just happens. Your extracurricular activities are amazing. That alone could get you in because it shows you are well rounded. You have a pretty good chance of getting in. Just score well on the SAT.
