I've lived in Michigan my entire life, so i'm a citizen. Here are my sophomore and junior year grades:

10th grade
Orchestra: A
World History: A
Biology: B+
Algebra 1: C
Writing for College: A
English 10: A

11th grade
Orchestra: A
Civics: B+
Creative Writing: A
Algebra 2: D+
Physics: D-
English 11: B+

The main reason why my grades have gone down this year is because I had to take 2 math classes and I'm TERRIBLE at math, so it dropped my GPA significantly. As you can see, I'm definitely an English, writing, and history student and excel at all of these, with the exception of my English and civics class this year because I switched into their classes late in the school year and underestimated their hard grading. I'll definitely try harder in their classes from now on, since it's just the first marking period. In college I plan to go into a non-math major anyway, so I doubt my math grades are going to be considered too much.

My extracurricular activities are short, just Lacrosse, I play violin, participate in yoga classes, I shadowed a vet (back when I wanted to be a vet or vet tech), ushering at church on Sundays, volunteered at various organizations this summer, plus I've had a job since 3 months after I turned 16, so I'm used to keeping down a job and working when I need to. And this school year I'm planning on tutoring underprivileged kids in school and visiting old people in homes. So I can't put that on my application just yet, just my plans for this year.

I took a practice ACT a few weeks ago and we don't get our scores back until December. It really wasn't hard, I'm anticipating a pretty decent score.

Do you think I have a good chance of getting into MSU? On the application, I know you have to submit a short message, should I mention that I'm not planning on going into any math related majors since my math grades are so low? When should I apply?
