What are my chances of getting into Northeastern?

My dream college is Northeastern, and I’m also interested in Boston Uni, Pitt, Quinnipiac, UMass, etc.

Reading/Writing SAT: 760
Math SAT: 640
UW GPA: 3.8
W GPA: 4.0

Designated major: business (probably communications/marketing)
I am the president of an art/writing club, participate in Model UN, performing arts, youth group, and yearbook.
I have some volunteer work with aspca, the local hospital, women’s shelter, etc.
I will be in National Honors Society my senior year.
I am taking 5 AP classes, 1 IB, and self-studying for 3 AP tests

It might be worth noting that my 9-10th grade years I had lots of medical complications, and this year (11th) my grades are worlds better, really bringing up my gpa.

I understand Northeastern is probably a bit of a reach, but I’m going to apply anyway. What about the other schools? How are my chances?

Northeastern is not a reach for you, but I’m afraid your acceptance there is not that likely.

Your SAT is just below their average (Which is approximately around 1450)
Your GPA is just below their average as well. Northeastern has an estimated average of 3.94 when it comes to their GPA, and they require that the student should take plenty of AP/IB courses.

Your major might help you get in, but it’s going to be a little competitive, but test your luck anyway!

Boston University is also a little tough, but you definitely have a good chance there. When it comes to Boston Uni, you’re practically either roaming around their averages or even slightly above them. Therefore, you might be looking at a possible acceptance there. However, I’m not entirely certain that this will be the case so it could go either way.

On the other hand, you have a pretty solid chance at Pittsburgh, Quinnipiac, and UMass.

Best of luck!

That by definition is a reach.

However I would say that Northeastern is match. You are in the range.

I don’t think the average UW GPA at NEU is 3.94.

I think NEU is a match.

The average GPA is on a 5.0 weighted scale, hence the high 3.94. I haven’t seen that before, but it falls within the 4.2-3.9 middle 50% so I’m inclined to trust it.

Given that, @jinxorchestra is wrong, and the OP has at least an average GPA, if not above. Safely in the middle of the profile. I think a match is a fair assessment in the end, so it worked out. A high match given the lack of rigor relative to what they like to see (if the school offers more AP/Honors that is), and the lower end test scores (new SAT remember). Certainly not out of reach, but probably under 50% chance.

I never thought that I would get accepted, by I just got accepted last Thursday. My SAT was much lower than urs (700e, 600m), and my grades are about the same, so don’t give up hope. You definitely have a shot. That being said, your chances are probably not great. But you never know.

@slowrunner7 Last Thursday?

Yeah

Yeah @TomSrOfBoston

@slowrunner7 where you accepted to the honors program? did you apply RD?

@PRMG250 I was accepted to NUin and I applied EA but was deferred to RD

@slowrunner7 thats weird that they notified you early without being honors

do you mind sharing the letter? @slowrunner7

@PRMG250 I think all NUin students are notified early, but don’t take my word for that http://imgur.com/bdKBnuu

@PRMG250 I think that all NUin admits are notified early, but don’t take my word for it

This is absolutely not true, and if anything closer to the opposite.
