What are my chances of getting into NYU Stern??

I've been taking mostly all honors and AP courses and I generally get A's and B's in my classes. But then I had a downhill trend in my grades because of personal issues, and this year, my senior year, I'm trying to pull things together again. I have a LOT of doubts about getting into my first choice college, NYU Stern. And another thing is I'm asian, and a lot of other asians are way smarter than me. But I also know not a lot of women go into business management, so it might balance my chances. But anyway, here are some background info on me:

My last SAT score was horrible...I only got a 1760/2400 and 1180/1600. M: 670, V: 510, W: 580. I'm waiting for the new one coming this Thursday.

I also have an art portfolio set up because I've been working on art for a long time. I don't know if that'd help me too much.

Please let me know what my chances are to getting in. I'm soooo scaredddd! I think I need a REAAALLY good essay to boost my chances...or is that not even enough? I'm planning on using essay edge's service to help me with my personal statements. And I'm getting my recommendation letters from the two teachers who favor me, so I reaaally hope that helps.

To be honest, your chances seem slim. It doesn't really matter if you state on your app that you want to go into management, by the way, since most people switch majors anyway. Also, downward trends are really bad, although you might be able to explain them away with your personal issues... but it really depends on what those issues are. A C+ in math is really not good for a business school. You do have something with that service club you started, but other than that, newspaper is the only real constant thing you have. Also, have you received any awards?

The SAT score is low, but you said that already. Also, I remember colleges telling us not to send in supplemental materials if we don't have to... an art portfolio is not very relevant to your app anyway, especially since you don't list art as an extracurricular, nor have you won any awards in art.

I don't know... apply, of course, since you never know. This is what I think, not necessarily what the admissions board thinks. Good luck!

I haven't really competed in many contests. >_< The two I competed in I won 3rd place in the high school geometry contest and only honorable mention in an international aviation art contest.

My downhill trend started when my mom got pregnant again during my sophomore year, and before then I was always the only child. My grandparents came to live with my family and there were constant fights in the house. I just could not concentrate. The fights continued all through these years literally every single day. Then junior year things got worse when 5 of my friends/family friends died from cancer/car accidents. I was just in complete shock. I don't know if any of this will help me even if I mention them in my college essays. I don't know if those are legitimate excuses for my horrible grades...but honestly the courses I took were pretty tough...especially chemistry. Most of the people in the class got C's.

Thanks for your imput though, ijailin89. =)

Those are legit, believe me. And no, you don't have to devote essay space to them... there's a special section on the app just for the explanation for those kinds of things.

SAT is a very low, most of the people here have SAT in the high 1900 (stern). but its only $65. and i agree with ijailin89, its worth a try.

actually my new score is 1850 now. idk if that'd really help much either..lol. 670 math and 580 verbal.
i'm surprised that ppl in stern mostly have 1900's only. i thought they'd have like 2200+. well hopefully just being off by like 100 won't kill my chances all the way X_x

Stern currently does not consider Writing and the average SAT score is 1440 (according to the dean who spoke at orientation.)

1440 avg is still 720 on math and verbal. The 670 in math is in the ball park. The 580 verbal could hurt. I presume english isn't your native language. If so, play that up.
