Alright, so i'm a Junior in High School right now and at the moment my GPA is definitely not ideal for N.Y.U standards (a 2.967) but if I could give any reason for that it'd be that my freshman and sophomore year I made some really bad choices in my personal life that have made my grades drop. but at the moment my grades have been the highest they've ever been. I've always been a B/C student but this year I've managed to have A's or high B's and the classes that usually bring me down are History and Math, where i usually get C's. Do you think if I explain in my application these reason for my low GPA I could still have a chance to get into N.Y.U? I wanna do a double major (if possible) with Theater and Journalism and minor in Creative Writing. By the end of this year i want to have at least a 3.2 but am happy getting a 3.0 or above. besides my GPA I've done extra things to heighten my chances of getting into N.Y.U. I started a GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) at my high school and am the president of it. I'm currently the Historian of my drama department and want to be President of my drama department by my senior year. I'm in the year book staff and newspaper team. and I'm also participating in my Relay for Life team. I also am applying to work/volunteer at a children's theater camp over the summer and also have a job at the moment, and I'm also going to throw in that I'm Latina but born in the U.S. So can anyone give me advice on other ways to heighten my chances? (I have back up Universities I want to go to and all of them are in New York, so basically all I want to do is get out of Georgia and go to New York and N.Y.U is my dream school.) Thanks in advance!

If you live in the US, you should have posted this in NYU’s forum not in the international forum. Just to give you an insight, NYU’s average GPA is around 3.7 and it has a 30% acceptance rate. Also, what is your SAT score ?

Hate to say this but you have almost 0% chance of getting in with a 3.2 GPA no matter what you tell them about your GPA…extra curricular’s are good and you should try to get a high score on the SAT so that you can at least get into Rutgers or good SUNY schools.
